A couple of days ago I picked up my dream machine - a Ryzen 3950 16-core processor on an MSI Carbon motherboard with a PNY 2080ti Blower card, 128GB RAM, two 2TB M.2 drives and a 7200rpm 4TB drive.
The first question I had is, "How does this compare to my old i7 8-core with the 1080ti 32GB RAM machine?"
I created this image using my xLighting set, and rendered it on both machines with the render settings set identially. (Rough summary - 95% convergence, 5.00 quality, 30 sec update intervals, 150000 max samples, 15000 max time, both using the CUDA cores, no CPU in the Iray mode.)
Here's the result...
1080ti - 35 minutes 51 seconds
2080ti - 65 minutes 12 seconds
difference - 29 minutes 21 seconds!!!
That's close to half the render time. (45% to be more precise.)
If I tell it to use both the CPU and CUDA it cuts the render down to 29 minutes 49 seconds, which is about another 10% faster!

A excellent work out. i am about to invest in a new system. Thanks for posting the specs
You're welcome. I had read stuff about the 2080Ti not being much of an improvement over the 1080Ti, but as you can see from my results, it's definitely and improvement in speed. The CPU didn't offer that much improvement over the graphics card upgrade, but the CPU makes up for it in other areas with other software.
