Subject: Issue with Gen3 Female

Vially ( ) posted Sun, 12 March 2017 at 2:06 PM · edited Tue, 26 March 2024 at 7:56 PM

Okay, so my issue is with Gen3 female - It appears to have not installed correctly and I cannot get it to do so. According to Daz Install Manager it recides in: (C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library) /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Genesis3Female.dsf

These are cut and paste information from Daz Install Manager, when I select the link and open the folder. the Only file shown is the DSON support file and 4 folders. Morphs, Projection Templates, Tools and UV sets. Each folder has it's own respective sub-folders and each DOES have items in it.

However, when I load Daz Studio, Gen3 Female is blank when I navigate to where she should be for import. Files> Figures> People> Female> Genesis 3> this shows as blank, nothing in it. (there is a line that states "Where are my files?" - which is exactly what I am trying to figure out.

As an interesting side note: Files> Figures> People> Female> Real World> shows Victoria 6, which appears to load without issue. Not much in the way of Morphs; however, the ones that are there work just fine. This is interesting simply because V6 is based off the Gen3 base model correct? So Daz Studion knows "something" about where that information is, just not where it is to load the base figure into it's own catagory.

So, this started by my attempting to make a hair prop for V6 in Poser - I am unable to get the polygon surfaces I am selecting to highlight, (thereby allowing me to see what I am doing.) I know I am not doing the process wrong, because, well it works for every other character I load, even Daz characters. So it's an issue with the V6/Gen3 character. I am going on the assumption that since Gen 3 does not exists as far as Daz Studio is concerned in base format, this could be why DSON cannot translate the Polygon surfaces... Whew, still with me?

Okay, so in trying to find the files that make up G3 Female, I went to G3 Male: Files> Figures> People> Male> Real World> and G2 and G3 are listed - as well as Basic Male and Surfer guy... I select Genesis Male, right click and "Browse to file location" and it opens in: C:UsersPublicDocumentsMy DAZ 3D LibraryPeopleGenesis 3 Male

So... following logic, I back out of that path and go into the Genisis Female Folder: There are 3 files and 4 sub-folders Files are the DSON user file and 2 PNG - JUST Exactly like G3 Males folder content...

So, since G3 Female is where she is supposed to be in order to load into DAZ, I try to load bty double clicking on the file: G3 Loads into DAZ Studio just fine and there are a couple extra Morphs associated with just her (ears and whatnot.)

I should note here that according to Daz Install Manager the G3 Male content files are located in: (C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library) /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Male/Genesis3Male.dsf

If I open the link, I get teh exact same type of file listing I get for G3 Female, the DSON Support file and 4 folders.

So both Models are loaded, both are default, both the files are exactly where the system is thinking they are and are exactly the same in terms of the type of data they contain. One loads and one does not.

the issue appears to be that ANYTHING associated with Genesis3Female is not read, or "folders" within the treee structure are just ignored and not loaded. Any help with this would be great, and before it is suggested I have un-installed and re-installed G3 Female essentials multiple times to no resolution.

Thank you, V

I think you are installing the some add ons but not the original files. That comes from a Daz Studio install, if I remember correctly.

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Mon, 13 March 2017 at 2:11 AM

I am a bit confused about your paths. Maybe Your DS app is as confused as I am ;-) . This is the default path: (In your case:)C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis3Female/ . Download the zip-file manualy. Open the zip and browse the file structure. This is the path you will need to keep in order to have everything work correctley..

Vially ( ) posted Mon, 13 March 2017 at 10:18 PM

So okay,

From the downloaded Zip file the base path to everything is: C:UsersDownloadsIM00021630-01_Genesis3FemaleStarterEssentials.zipContent Under that we have 5 folders: Data People Render Presets Runtime Scene Builder

If i dig into the "people" folder I get exactly the same files that I mentioned in the previous post path being now: C:UsersDownloadsIM00021630-01_Genesis3FemaleStarterEssentials.zipContentPeopleGenesis 3 Female Folders are: Clothing Hair Materials Poses

Three files are: Genesis 3 Female (DSON User File) Genesis 3 Female (PNG) Genesis 3 Female.tip (PNG File)

Going back to my hard drive and where I am finding files - AND assuming that C:UsersDownloadsIM00021630-01_Genesis3FemaleStarterEssentials.zipContent is equal to the path C:UsersPublicDocumentsMy DAZ 3D Library - (remember this is all default, I have changed nothing in the install.)

I do find a folder named People - and is I continue I get to the point: C:UsersPublicDocumentsMy DAZ 3D LibraryPeopleGenesis 3 Female And there we have the same 4 folders and the same 3 files as mentioned from the ZIP.

So I open DAZ Studio 4.9 - and In Actors, Wardrobe & Props - I find "figures" under Figures I find People - Expand People, and there are more choices, Female, Male and Child Select Female I show as options: Real World - (all that is in this folder is Victoria 6) Genesis - (Loads without issue) Genesis 2 - (Loads without issue) Genesis 3 - (Blank - except the question asking "where are my files") Victoria 3 - (Loads without issue) Victoria 4 - (Loads without issue) Victoria 5 - (Loads without issue) Victoria 6 - (Loads without issue)

So the files are there, they appear to be in the right or correct place - AND I can load Daz by "open with..." and use them, singly - They are just not available via the DAZ Studio UI.

Thanks for the help any other ideas?

V

Nuke your content library and start over. Use DIM, make sure the install path/library in DIM is set as a path/library in Studio. It is just that simple.

Vially ( ) posted Tue, 14 March 2017 at 9:48 PM

Um yes, well since everything here is in fact a re-install, fried hard drive. AND DLM was used to install everything, AND left 100% default. Wiping the whole thing out and starting over, for the 3rd time, doewsn't sound like a very hopeful solution.

Thanks. V

Razor42 ( ) posted Tue, 14 March 2017 at 11:42 PM

I think you are confusing yourself a bit here. A lot of things in your first post don't make a great deal of sense tbh. Victoria 7 is based off the Genesis 3 Female figure base. Victoria 6 is based on Genesis 2 Female figure base.

Files in People/Genesis 3 Female are user facing files that load the Genesis 3 Female figure into Daz Studio.

Files in data/ are back end files that are not user facing they hold data resources that are referred to by the user facing files.

Within Studio icons located in the Smart content Tab under Files> Figures> People> Female> Genesis 3> are Smart content that is dependent on correct and updated metadata as well as correct installation of assets.

You seem to be over complicating the issue which is making it almost impossible to provide a solution.

For a start I cannot tell if you are actually having trouble loading Genesis 3 Female or just locating the associated files in the Smart content tab within Daz Studio. From some of your statement it appears you are able to load Genesis 3 Female, you just can't find it in Smart Content tab.

Try this please:

1 Go to the Content Library tab not the Smart content tab.

2. Navigate through the menu to Daz Studio Formats/My Daz 3D Library/People/Genesis 3 Female

3. Is the base figure icon displayed here?

If that proves true Genesis 3 Female is installed and the issue may lay with your Metadata.

Vially ( ) posted Wed, 15 March 2017 at 7:10 AM

Hi Razor, Thank you for the reply and some further information to help in attempting to figure this out. I probably am over complicating things, it is how I make sure I have ulcers :)

So the base issue is that I cannot get Gen3 female to load anywhere via the actual application.

I CAN get it to load if I navigate outside of DAZ Studio to the "People" Genesis Female directory and double click on the file/icon for that model.

So navigating to the content library Figures> People> Female> Genesis 3> there is nothing listed there.

So now what?

Thanks again V

jestmart ( ) posted Wed, 15 March 2017 at 9:03 AM

First it is DIM, Dee Eye Em. Second DIM and Studio do not communicate with each other so it is up to you to open the preferences in both programs to make sure all paths are set correct.

Razor42 ( ) posted Wed, 15 March 2017 at 9:27 AM · edited Wed, 15 March 2017 at 9:32 AM

No need to give yourself an ulcer, it sounds like Daz Studio (DS) doesn't know where the files are for some reason, the fact that it loads when using the Open with command or clicking the raw .duf file shows that its all in there somewhere. It's just a matter of connecting the dots within DS. It sounds like you have tried quite a few things but starting with the basics may help at this point since you have reached a deadend, just to make sure there isn't something small going wrong somewhere.

Ignore the data folder for the time being, what your missing is the connection between the Genesis 3 Female.duf within Studio and the file located on your hard drive which should be located on your hard drive at: (C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library) /People/Genesis 3 Female/Genesis3Female.duf

Okay so if there is nothing listed under the People/Genesis 3 Female Folder path within DS Content Library tab just to clarify do you mean there is no Genesis 3 Female folder at all in your content library or just nothing listed within that Genesis 3 Folder? Where does the folder path finish within DS? Or is it just an empty Genesis 3 Female folder?

You need to make sure that two things are definitely matching. The install location on your hard drive and the Content Directory Manager Content Set. Check on your hard drive in explorer the location of your_ 'My Daz 3D Content Library'_ at the same path as above.

So it should be WhateverDrive/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis 3 Female/Genesis 3 Female.duf

From here the files are either where they are meant to be which means Daz Studio has not been correctly configured to see your installed content at that location. If this is the case you need to use the drop down in the upper right corner on the Content Library and select Content Directory Manager. This Dialogue will show where Daz Studio is pointed to find your content this needs to match the installed path on your Hard drive.

Gen3-find2.jpg

Or if the files cannot be located at the correct path, it may mean that something went wrong when they were installed. If you are using Daz Install Manager (DIM) please check and make sure the path is correct that your are installing to.

You can do this by selecting the cog wheel in the upper right corner of the DIM window. Selecting Installation and checking INSTALL path is correct here.

Gen3-find3.jpg

If none of this seems to help can you please post a few pictures for me, Firstly The Genesis 3 Female.duf file in the People folder in windows explorer or the finder window with the file path visible and also a picture of the Daz Studio Content Directory Manager showing the Daz Studio Formats Content Sets.

Hope this helps

Vially ( ) posted Wed, 15 March 2017 at 9:46 PM

Greetings,

Okay so attempting to follow along but there are some major differences. Image 1 is of the Windows Path, everything appears to be where it is supposed to be. Windows Path.jpg

Image 2 is what I see in DAZ Studio - please note - the content manager was also BLANK. I did a search for Genesis 3 Female and after that navigating to the folder it finds it. Also note on the right I still get the "Where are my files"

Gen 3 Female.jpg

Lastly is what I see in DIM. There is not an "Install" directory as you show in your image.

DIM.jpg

Again thank you for the help. V

Razor42 ( ) posted Wed, 15 March 2017 at 10:40 PM

Okay so Genesis 3 Female is correctly installed and displaying in the content library for you to load. The DIM setup is correct as your using the Recommended Daz Studio/Poser Content Folder as indicated at the bottom. Mine is different because I am using a custom location sorry about that.

Now we can look at your Smart Content Issue. When compared to my own Smart content, I do not have the categories as yours does for each of the individual figures. Are these custom categories you have created? Does Genesis 3 Female show up when you stop at the FEMALE level as below?

Gen3-find4.jpg

Razor42 ( ) posted Wed, 15 March 2017 at 10:48 PM

If you want to add Genesis 3 Female to a custom category in your Smart content.

Go to the content Library and right click on the Genesis 3 Female.duf and choose CATEGORISE.

The below dialogue will appear. Tick the custom category you would like the figure to appear in then click accept.

Check Smart content under the category to make sure the change has applied.

She does not show, even if I back out to "figures"

Vially ( ) posted Thu, 16 March 2017 at 12:07 AM

And so I tried categorizing, and the file now no longer shows in content library....

Razor42 ( ) posted Thu, 16 March 2017 at 4:13 AM

Okay... well, lets go back to the content library. Can you please post a pic as before of the Content Library showing the Genesis 3 Folder.

Vially ( ) posted Thu, 16 March 2017 at 6:48 AM

So that aspect was actually DAZ Studio going back to it's default and not showing Poser content - In other words I found it again right where it was.

jestmart ( ) posted Thu, 16 March 2017 at 9:34 AM

Studio will show Poser content if you are in the Poser Formats in the Content Library pane. Your problem was with stupid Smart Content that relies on the CMS database to be working.

Vially ( ) posted Thu, 16 March 2017 at 8:32 PM

So the issue is still within the "Smart" content. Everything else is okay I guess as it does exist where it is supposed to be if I look for it correctly :)

Razor42 ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2017 at 1:33 AM · edited Fri, 17 March 2017 at 1:33 AM

Okay try this go to your Smart content tab.

Use the drop down on the top right and choose Content DB Maintenance.

Choose Update Metadata. Untick user data and All Products.

Scroll down the list until you find Daz 3D 21630 Genesis 3 female. They are in numeric order.

Tick that and click Accept.

Let me know if it is not in the list.

Vially ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2017 at 7:08 AM

DAZ 3D 21630 Genesis 3 Female is not in the list.

flibbits ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2017 at 2:52 PM

Genesis 3 or Generation 3?

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2017 at 3:10 PM

Genesis 3. There is no such a grouping called generation 3, they are known by their individual mesh names, i.e., Victoria 3, Michael 3, etc.

DAZ 3D 21630 Genesis 3 Female is not in the list.

Try a search of your hard drive for files with the same name. If you find them make sure they are located in your content library folder under My DAZ 3D Library/Runtime/Support

Vially ( ) posted Sat, 18 March 2017 at 9:28 AM · edited Sat, 18 March 2017 at 9:31 AM

I find three files when doing a search:

DAZ_3D_21630_Genesis_3_Female_Starter_Essentials.jpg

DAZ_3D_21630_Genesis_3_Female_Starter_Essentials.dsa

DAZ_3D_21630_Genesis_3_Female_Starter_Essentials.dsx

All three files are located in:

Users> Public> Public Documents> My DAZ 3D Library> Runtime> Support

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 18 March 2017 at 10:50 AM

Those are the metadata files, for adding the figure to the database. What exactly did you search for? The product files don't have the SKU (the number) nor do they have underscores.

Vially ( ) posted Sat, 18 March 2017 at 12:46 PM · edited Sat, 18 March 2017 at 12:46 PM

i searched for "DAZ_3D_21630_Genesis_3_Female"

Actually I didn't include the underscores, those are on the files found.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 18 March 2017 at 5:02 PM

Try searching for Genesis 3 female

Vially ( ) posted Sat, 18 March 2017 at 6:20 PM

Okay, and so what am I looking for? There are quite a few files.

Razor42 ( ) posted Sat, 18 March 2017 at 6:49 PM

The metadata files appear to be correct and in the correct place. Can you please take a screenshot of the dialogue for Re-import metadata. So right click the dropdown in the upperright corner of the Smart Content tab, select Content Maintenance, Reimport Metadata. Scroll down to the correct product ID Range:DAZ_3D_21630 and take a a screenshot.

Vially ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2017 at 8:37 AM

The meta data re-import.

Razor42 ( ) posted Mon, 20 March 2017 at 11:31 PM

No problem, okay now so we can see the metadata for Genesis 3 Female is in the correct folder and Daz Studio is seeing it. I suspect you may have some custom user data which is causing the issue.

Can you take a screenshot of the categories selected for Genesis 3 Female, When you right click the Genesis 3 Female figure icon in the Content Library tab and select Categorize.

It should something like below.

Razor42 ( ) posted Tue, 21 March 2017 at 2:52 AM

Ok, so at this point its fair to say something has gone wrong with your custom catergorisation with the figure metadata. My suggestion would be to Reimport meta data for the Genesis 3 female figure and over ride your custom metadata on the figure. Basically this should reset Genesis 3 Females metadata back to the actual product metadata.

  1. From the Content Library - Use the top right drop and select Content Database Maintenance
  2. Firstly make a backup of your current user data by selecting Export User Data - this will create a backup if something goes wrong and you can always get back to the current state.
  3. Select Re-import Metadata.
  4. UNSELECT everything at the top of the panel including User Data and All Products, then select only the Genesis 3 Female Starter Essentials as the picture below.
  5. Also deselect User data overrides Product Data at the bottom.
  6. Press Accept.

This process will re-import the Genesis 3 Females Metadata and overwrite the existing customisation that is in place. If you want to add customised categorisation after this I can show you how to do that also.

If this process works then Genesis 3 Female should now be visible in your Smart content under females.

Let me know how it goes.
