Subject: strange message when uploading model

uresaman ( ) posted Mon, 24 October 2016 at 8:51 PM · edited Mon, 27 November 2023 at 6:34 PM

so I decided to make a dalek biological entity. Blacksmith did its job and the textures look fine but I think I did something wrong. When I was uploading the model--I am getting the message from the firestorm viewer that the "material is not a subset of the reference model..." so this leads me to believe that I have missed a step----now I know I mapped it because I could not paint on the textures. I used the projection painting and painted my textures in medibang and then back onto the model in Blacksmith which worked fine. Any suggestions as to what I might be missing or doing wrong?

Hello uresaman,

Blacksmith3D only export the geometry for an obj file. If you want to export an obj with links to the maps embedded in the material file, you should use a modeler with the correct settings or export as fbx. I did not installed "firestorm viewer", and I don't know if it supports fbx files.

Another way is to add manually with a text editor the path for each material map to your .mtl file. At the end of each material block, add: map_Kd C:Users/......................................... C:Users/.... is the absolute path to your map.

Hope it replies,

Best regards,

I should have added that I have to upload a DAE file BUT I know realize after talking to you that I created this object (.obj file) but neglected to create the .MTL file so I went back and fixed and converted the package to the DAE format and now it still won't upload because of parsing errors which has absolutely nothing to do with blacksmith---this has to do with mirror modifiers, symmetry and norms--maybe--could be a host of other things--anywhoo, you set me on the right track--at least i can now get it textured. Thanks!
