Looks like the Blender Cycles render engine is coming to C4D as a plugin? Ported by Insydium.

Well, it could be good, or it could be bad. Insydium are ok developers, but they tend to overcharge their stuff (IMHO) and their licensing system can be a pain in the ass if you have seats that work offline for extended periods of time and use the Maxon license server. They are the devs of XParticles for C4D, which is what every C4D pro out there uses for animated fx. What's worse, any pro using C4D without XP installed are potentially losing jobs to those who do, or those using Houdini or Maya or 3dsMax.

I have been wanting and looking for away to justify buying Cinema 4D and currently the only possiblity might be by investing in Bodypaint but comparing to Zbrush still saving up pennys to see which might get my dollars. But when Poser introduced Cycles render into their software and all the available cycle shaders and nodes recipes available has made learning and working with Poser Superfly render that much more easy.

It will be interesting to see how it transalates C4D Procedural materials to blender cycles nodes .

I have been using the free script for Daz Studio to send my Daz 3D content to Blender cycles fully converted for rendering for the past year

To be honest I would have a very hard time justifying paying for the ability to use essentially a free open source PBR

Well IMHO any Pro using C4D period is already losing jobs to those using Houdini or Maya or 3dsMax particularly if they are are doing Character animation with motion retargeting &cloth physics. And that is why I stopped supporting Maxon back at version 11.5 ( which I am still running on OSX) This business of depending on third party add ons to give C4D the functionality ,that should be built-in for its price, became unacceptable to me.

You are always at the mercy of some third party to keep the plugin updated and if he has an unfortunate encounter with a poorly refrigerated shrimp salad or simply gets tired of it all, you are left with a plugin that will most assuredly become obsolete with Maxons next" 17.00598390" version update or you stop updating to keep your vital third party plugins working.

Good point! I agree we've been very lacking in some areas that other packages deliver by default for a long time now. First being character animation and the other being a good and powerful particle system. As far as our needing plugins to do stuff, I suggest having a look at 3dsmax over the years. That software was literally built on the foundation of needing plugins to work to the fullest potential, yet it somehow became one of the most respected platforms (don't ask me how that happened), Even so, Max has had a very powerful particle system built in it for years now, and at this point it has no less than 3 dedicated rigging methods! I'm not gonna dare compare C4D to Maya or Houdini because there's literally NO comparison to be had. Well, Houdini I wouldn't consider a full featured package like the others, but it's the ultimate for particle FX.

looks good ,but since I render mostly Daz content for my infrequent PBR still images I would just use the free plugin ,Available in Daz studio, to sent my scenes to blender with full texture conversion to cycles nodes.

Well, it should look good. It's nearly a direct 1:1 copy of Arnold's node tree. In fact, the Cycles skin shader for sale is a port of Arnold skin shader too. Not that there's anything wrong with copying one of the best render engines known in the industry, but I expect it to be great since that's the case.
