Subject: Giving you your props...

Hope this thread isn't so political it gets locked. I keep seeing people claiming that there are fewer and fewer props sets being made for Poser. Actually, I see new Prop sets all the time, so could someone who's made that claim or who feels that there are less prop sets being made for Poser, please elaborate on what you feel is missing from these sets that make them incompatible with being used in Poser?

Also, what kind of prop sets do you feel you can't find for Poser?

To be fair, there's nothing like that for Daz either. I'm surprised that other than Star Trek and Star Wars, there's little fan made items for popular movies like Hellboy for example. I wonder if folks are scared of being shut down by the movie companies. It's possible that the content artists just don't have the interest and/or there aren't enough folks asking for them. You can, however, make your own items. That's the beauty of the Daz/Poserverse.

As you all know, my main contributions are Daleks and as ever, I'm making more Dalek related Freebies which I hope to inflict upon you in the near future. I also have a Dark Knight stylee belt out there and there will be more Dark Knight stuff soon. After that, I intend to concentrate more on Marketplace stuff but I will be making Freebies as and when time allows.

In fact, there are a few which need a final polish before releasing into the wild, so don't give up hope for more Poser Freestuff just yet.

not pictures ,MOVIES !!! The complete movie ,every single thing you see in the movie.ALL of it.so it matches. GAMES match also.

don't copy it exactly like star trek, war but make a mechs world ,armageddon world. don't just make another pointless prop but make a world. your own original world that u have the copy rights to.

I can buy out renderosity n daz n cp n rt etc etc and I'll have a lot of mixed match stuff. there's no consistency to the props. well I could make a movie about sluts in vegas but 007's got that gig all ready. the lucky little weasel ;)

I can dig it. Really, I don't think many - any - Freestuff makers would be willing to make a long term investment (time, creativity) in a large "world", when there's no hope of any reward other than the thanks.

That said, Team Dystopia have done just that with their city blocks, many of which are free, available at Daz, IIRC. There are a number of other free items made to fit in with the Dystopia theme, plus many additions to buy. All have a fairly consistent theme, which lends itself to urban future/SF scenarios. Also, just about any Sanctum Arts stuff and many of Stonemason's sets and props play well with Dystopia, and for vehicles there are numerous options available here and elsewhere, both free and to buy.

Coflek-Gnorg is another good source for SF themed sets and props, as is 3DC. Most of their stuff is to buy but IMO, well worth it. FireAngel has a superb multi function vehicle in the Marketplace, a very versatile thing, which is excellent for modern and/or futuristic stuff, and fits well into Dystopia and Stonemason sets.

Combining elements of any of those in various permutations should keep you busy until the cows come home, and for some time after. Some of them may need a bit of alteration to the odd texture if you want to get a coherent theme going on but that's all part of the fun.

Just like to point out that I'm in no way associated with any of the vendors mentioned above; I've bought quite a bit of their stuff and I think it's well worth it. I have to admit I didn't buy much of the Dystopia stuff; one of team Dystopia very kindly gifted me almost all their products. Cheers, Billy. 😂

I would love it if someone would do Stargate Atlantis. I have a stargate but haven't found anything that looks similar to the gate room.

Hi I have this set from DAZ( pic) May work as reasonable replacement for a gateroom. I dont use DS /Iray for actual rendering but it exports nicely as an obj file from DS with textures collected for import into Cinema4D. would likely import to poser as well. google "marcoor control room"

Why would you do a Stargate for Stargate Atlantis? Most of their travel was done in space ships.

Clarify - you want the gate room from Atlantis, as distinct from the gate room at the SGC (Cheyenne mountain)?

Two questions:

[_] You want the gate room in Atlantis?

[_] Do you have P11/P11Pro? Because that looks like it begs for Superfly.

I have Poser 11. (Love SuperFly) The Atlantis gateroom had a stargate and I found that on Turbosquid. I think it was sharecg that had the SG1 gateroom with a DHD. But yeah it's the Atlantis Gate Room that I've been trying to find, find similar or cobble together something that would be similar. The Marcoor control room has potential for parts. I think I'll have to delve into hexagon and learn it for what I'm after.

Oh, good. Under construction now. There are thousands of little lights, but in Superfly I can easily make them all true lightcasters. This will be already set up for Superfly.

Atlantis gate room screengrab 08.jpg

I also will attempt to make decent lightcasting props for an active gate threshold and a "kawoosh", but it remains to be seen whether that succeeds.

Nice job! Yeah the set had a lot of what they called those "chicklet" lights. That looks great. I was debating on painting the window that's behind the gate and putting it on a flat plane for some scenes with the gate in front. :)

That would do, while waiting for this full stage set to be completed. Lots of modeling, UV mapping, and material workup to be done. There will have to be a limit to how much detail to include - don't want a 7 million poly beast that no one can render! So, much of the detail will be done with bump/normal maps, allowing the use of lower poly meshes.

...and some thought needs to be given to breaking up the walls so that pieces can be removed (un-tick "visible in camera") to allow camera access.

If anyone has a detail which they want included and hopefully a screengrab or two of it, chime in!

See this is what it's all about! I actually prefer creating props over anything else I could make. I've a few more Egyptian props to add to my modeling to do list. I'm a big fan of Stargate Atlantis too. Would also like to see more Greek buildings, a Hanging Garden of Babylon, & an Atlantis (City) model. 😀

Your Egyptian sets could serve as Goa'uld structures. 😃

I've been opening doorways, then putting in control edges - boring, but necessary. There's just a primitive placeholder for that main window behind the gate; needs cut to shape, etc.

I need to find out how the area I already have built transitions/segues to that hexagonal shaft going up to the jumper bay.

I also don't know what is beyond the door below the circular conference room; maybe I'll stop the model at the doorway, maybe expand the circumference and make it the holograph room.

Oh yeah, Egyptian sets work perfect for SG1 artwork. Here's one I did last year.

The Jumper Bay was, I believe, one floor up and had the retracting roof as well as the retracting floor for dropping down into the gate room. The conference room was, I believe, a dead end. Not even a balcony if I remember correctly. Joseph Mallozzi has the plans for Atlantis on his blog on wordpress and in the forums at gateworld if you search blueprints there's quite a lot of info. I think there was a transporter on the gate room floor to the left (if you were facing the stargate).

If you want help with textures I'd be willing to help out. I'm sure others would too. :)

Love that render Kendra! You can find just about any kind of blueprints on the Internet. They're really helpful when you like doing recreations of the real things. Amazing how technology changed the world huh?

I really get into making Egyptian props but I get obsessed with how it looks so it takes forever. LOL To be honest, the Pharaoh's Garden was a bit of a learning curve and Crapal Tunnel doesn't help either.

Yes, my concern is that a camera view from the top of the main stairway looking toward the gate might see the bottom of that hexagonal vertical shaft. So, I'd like to be able to include the gate room ceiling and the lower part of that shaft in this model. I can't find any schematics for that, nor any screengrabs of it. I can just omit it, but it would be nice to include.

Agreed; I have the circular conference room included. What puzzles me is what is in the space on the level below it. Specifically, the half outside of that wall/doorway.

Thank you! Found that blog and forum. Don't see schematics for that segue between gate room ceiling and the hex shaft going up to the jumper bay iris. I think all of that transition area was greenscreened/CGI (no physical stage set).

I included the trapezoid-shaped intra-city transporter (the elevator-like gizmo); look for the pink human figure under the circular conference room in the Silo screenshot above - he's in the intra-city transporter. If you mean one of the general purpose ring transporters, I don't see a ringset on any schematic, but I do seem to recall seeing one used in some episode. Here is a transporter in the "Quarantine" episode:

Texturing images would be of great help in particular (orthogonal shots of control panels, orthogonal floor/wall/ceiling samples, etc); help with working up the Poser materials in general would be helpful - there will be many material zones which will need to be textured in order to finish this project.

In the gallery section, 2nd row is an image of the floor of the jumper bay opening up into what looks like the gate room.

I can't really tell what's below the conference room but it looks like it could be a corridor but I can't find any concrete info. It's good to see I'm not the only hardcore Stargate fan here. :)

Ha! Good catch, Kendra. From that infographic picture, I can see the relative size of the shaft, and I can see the dais below. (The "dais" being the slightly elevated platform with the gate at one end and the bottom of the main staircase at the other end.) That's enough for me to work from. The gate room ceiling and the bottom of the jumper bay shaft definitely need to be removable, for camera access.

I have lower level (gate room floor level) and mezzanine (2nd floor) plans. Angular first floor walls run under the middle of the conference room, and that first floor wall has a door. I may simply leave that door with nothing outside of it, or I may make a holograph room there, since the holo room has circular walls (at least on one half) like the conference room. The holo room is where Ganos Lal (alias Morgan LaFey) appeared to Daniel Jackson, pretending to be a hologram. Black lines are lower level walls; green lines are upper level walls:

Atlantis gate room floor plan1080x1200.jpg

I've projected a schematic onto a primitive ring, to guide me in making cuts/extrusions. Don't worry, the stargate won't look like that when finished! I have a chevron formed, but not UV mapped yet.

I am not sure that there are less props sets being made for Poser, I certainly could not prove the case either way. The perception may be very different however in that, with the loss of certain marketplaces, many of the props being made are for Daz only. I accept that in many cases they can be made to work in Poser but that is not something a lot of users can, or want to do. Add that to the fact that some of the vendors that used to make props for Poser now make for Daz only the impression at least seems to be a loss. If you spend a lot of time clicking on promos for some nice looking props only to find they are Daz only it is not really surprising if the person doing the clicking comes away with the impressing that less is being made for Poser. To try and prove my point I have just looked at the headline items at Daz. Urban Future, Urban Sprawl and Sci-Fi black market would interest me but they are all Daz only. I do shop at Daz and have a lot of the scenes from Petipet which are usable for Poser out of the box for. Here I purchase a from at least five vendors on a regular basis that create props and scenes that can be used in Poser in the same way so I do try and support those that are creating for Poser.

While I understand the desire to have items created from popular films and TV series some good 'new idea' sci-fi would be of interest to me but I am not sure on the wider market. It does not have to be pure space type Sci-Fi either. A lot of the Petipet stuff for example could be used in both Sci-Fi and modern day scenes. I will add that I chose Petipet as an example only because I have purchased so much from this vendor so I know the quality and how it can be used. The same could be said for the likes of Shawnaloroc, 3-d-c and Applejack here at Rendo, who again I support, who create props that work well in Poser and can be used in in story lines and items created can used together to expand to create a vast scene.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
