Hello everyone New to this forum. I am doing a project for one of my papers at Uni and I’m hoping to fully model and texture Neytiri in blender. I was wondering for some help, advice and maybe short tutorials or even maybe model files if anyone can provide. I have never sculpted or modelled a head or a body before and blueprints for her are very hard to come by, I have started the project as shown but it doesn’t seem to be going well. Any advice ?

I also have these blueprints.

Here are a few tutorials and timelapse videos which may help you get started modeling this head from reference photos. Keep in mind organic character modeling, particularly the head, is not an easy task for beginners, and tutorials can easily span several episodes..

And setting up some reference and background images:

Hello Sandu

Besides the above videos that Luxxeon provided the only other one I could find was a speed modeling one showing someone actually modeling Neytiri https://youtu.be/TfaD8uKvQDU Also doing a regular search on google saw a sculpted OBJ done Autodesk 123 seems the obj is free to down and can be modified but not for commercial use but might give you start by studying the model and then building your own.

Hope this helps

I saw that you also posted this request on CGTalk, but there aren't any replies there either which is unfortunate. Ultimately I think the answer you are seeking is going to come only through practice and experience. If you've watched all the videos and they aren't helpful, then the only logical conclusion is going to be trial and error. I'd really love to help out, but we will probably need more information on your progress and hopefully can help you past any sticky issues you come across along the way.

Personally speaking, I would probably begin this job by sculpting a rough profile shape with the sculpting tools in a general fashion. Then I might quickly retopologize that profile object with some simple and logical quad edge flow and continue on with the model using standard modeling techniques until I had something much more detailed and accurate. Near the end of the process, I might take it back into the sculpting mode, or export a more specific sculpting package like Zbrush or 3DCoat, and work on small details and texture painting. Of course with Blender, everything you need for a complete workflow is there and you really don't need another package unless you find some limitation, or feel more comfortable using other tools.

Hopefully, you can find a comfortable technique that will be helpful to get you started in the right direction. If you need assistance at any point along the way, please let us know. This Blender forum is filled with some of the most talented and friendly users I've come across yet, so I'm sure the folks here would love to help once you get started with a specific form.
