Subject: DSON Importer/Genesis 3

Hello Everyone, I want to buy Genesis 3 however I noticed that there isn't a DSON Importer included with it. Is there a way to create my own DSON Files so I can use Genesis 3 in Poser? I have Poser Pro 11. Thanks in advance.

Boni ( ) posted Wed, 06 January 2016 at 11:03 PM · edited Wed, 06 January 2016 at 11:04 PM

Although there is a thread about attempting to import genesis 3 to Poser, it is the first figure from Daz not supported for Poser. It is only for DAZ Studio, sorry.

Genesis is not Poser compatible at all at this point. Sadly Boni is correct. Very sad, since V7 is GORGEOUS!

Others have been working on an alternate method and have been able to get G3F into Poser. However, you will still need DAZStudion installed to help with this transition, and once either G3F or G3M is imported into Poser, all facial expressions and morphs are non-functional. These are separate riggings that Poser cannot import. There are other issues, as well. The effort is not worth the conversion.

BTW, G3 base is freely available with the installation of DAZStudio 4.8 or 4.9 Beta. If you are willing to learn another system, then go for it.

Well that disappointing. I wonder why DAZ would not include the importer with Genesis 3? That makes no sense. That seems like a bad marketing decision. Well maybe one day.

The DSON Importer is free on the DAZ3D website.

The problem is that Genesis 3 uses features that Poser doesn't support. The workarounds involve some sacrifice of quality in the bending.

Poser needs to get off their behinds and either make a figure comparable to Genesis 3 (never going to happen), solve the compatibility issue or lose market share. This is the first time I've seriously considered going over to dazstudio.

Sad as it is, if you look at many other threads here at Rendo the same discussion has been played out many times and the conclusion appears to be that it ain't going to happen, well either that or the thread gets locked. If you want to use Genesis 3 the easiest answer is to use Daz Studio.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

With the release of 4.9, the compatibility ship has sailed.

I suggest that you go and spend time in the DAZ forums before you make a commitment to Daz Studio. Daz Studio 4.9 has added both encryption and DRM capabilities to the code base. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where DAZ is going with this in the future. The way the DAZ employees have been addressing the issue in their forums is very telling.

AFA figures, we have a lot of very good ones currently available. And they are all DRM-free - the latest SM figures are even merchant resources.

It's best to use Genesis figures with DAZStudio and Poser figures with Poser. If you want a high quality figure, that can compete with G3 figures in Poser, then wait for Erogenesis' ProjectE to be released.

RorrKonn ( ) posted Fri, 05 February 2016 at 2:46 AM

ssgbryan If I'm not a thief what do I even care about Encryption and DRM. DAZ ,Poser ,MS5 ,Substance Live ,Photoshop ,MudBox all have a web connection. & all have what ever security that I don't care enough about to find out about how it works. and if they ask if that can keep up with there software on my PC I tell them sure what do I care. I didn't still any of there App's.

Where on the web everthing we type is for the world to see. Are host provider know where we surf. If they keep up with me then they alt to be pretty descent at CGI buy now. Gogle knows every thing I've searched for the last decade .So we either have PC's or Privacy ,hope they have fun snooping cause I'm not giving up my PC.

ProudApache at the end of the day DAZ is a vender. Venders come n go. The majority of venders don't make stuff for DAZ or Poser.

I would never advise using DSON but G3 has nothing on G1,G2 there all 3 ya basic built for SubD ,around 20,000 polycount. You can see a lot of them at TurboSquid. With the same topology flow that all App's follow. That I've used for the last 18 years

From DS you can export the clothed G3/V7 etc as OBJ and import into poser. Then you can add props etc to your scene and render. OFC the figure will be static and you have to play around with the materials but once you got it right just save it. Or use EZSkin on her. I use both programs and have the best of 2 worlds.

jestmart ( ) posted Fri, 05 February 2016 at 1:19 PM

DAZ Studio 4.9 has added DAZ Connect, a new system to install content from within the program. Connect does not encrypt anything but is the only way to install encrypted content. Please get your facts straight.

hornet3d ( ) posted Fri, 05 February 2016 at 3:15 PM

Truth is that both Poser and Daz are losing some customers due to the supposed wisdom of adding security features, Poser with the deactivation procedure and Daz with connect. I have no figures on how many are affected but in both cases there are at least some that have not upgraded to the latest version of Poser 11 and Daz 4.9.

Not trying to start a war but the Poser deactivation service did wipe out at least a few installations of game dev. Many over at Daz3D are stating that they are holding fire on upgrading to 4.9. To my knowledge, none of these people are pirates, mainly because the pirates are too busy working on hacks, they are loyal users that just do not like giving over control of their programs either by not having confidence it will continue to work or being forced to place their content in certain folders on their computer.

At least Daz was upfront about connect the same cannot be said about the introduction of the deactivation service in Game Dev, oh an before I am accused of being a Daz fan boy, I don't use studio, I do use Poser, and, regretfully, I did upgrade to game dev, hence my reluctance to upgrade to Poser 11.

Or you can use the genesis 2 Figures which have NOT suddenly become obsolete because of the letter 3.

And G2 animates better than G3 who's rigging has killed compatibility with all of the current character motion retargeting options....so I am skipping the G3 figures.

G2,DS 4.8 &Cinema4D for me going forward.

The DSON importer was never included in DS or as part of the Genesis/G2 figures. It is a separate product that has the Genesis and G2 figures bundled with it. The importer was created several months after the release of DS4. Genesis and the G2 line use the DAZ proprietary Triax rigging. The G3 line uses dual quaternion rigging and UDIM mapping whereas the older figures use standard UV mapping. If SMS opts to add support for dual quaternion rigging and UDIM in a future release of Poser, the G3 line might become Poser compatible.

SMS would do better spending resources improving their $400 Program & native figures instead of some endless pursuit of a magical unicorn with an arbritrary number after her name.

Poser already supports UDIM, since at least Poser 10. P9 too I believe but not 100% sure.

DAZ Poser filing system has never worked like they do in Blender,C4D .So I've never liked DAZ Poser filing system anyways. Alll I can think of is ,The public needs to tell the venders if they want sells to name n file stuff correctly.

Getting the vendors to listen to the customers - like that will ever happen.

I've talked to a lot of them over the years - it's all about them and their art, not ours.

The thing is, getting people agree what should be the rule is like herding cats. Everyone has an opinion and they don't match.

Well there needs to be a central authority enforcing UNIFORM STANDARDS for content & file formats etc.

This is how any market remains stable.

What exactly is the official rigging standard for a new poser figure??

Was it "Antonia"??..."Scarlett perhaps??..

A standard needs to be established first .

How are you going to rig your characters AmbientShade ?

I presume it's in the Public Domain; The only patent I came across is by Disney, not Autodesk, and it's used in a particular two-stage bending application...

Antonia is Public Domain but if we modify her .can we copyright n sell are modify part ?

Public Domain ,CopyRights ,Patents are complicated matters of law.

the patents/US20150002517 is dated 2013 dual quaternion rigging math has been around a lot longer. Might be older then the invention of CGI even.

I don't recall what license Antonia is published under, but I recall that you can sell derivative product. One can buy all sorts of public domain books at any bookstore; anything from before 1923 in the US.

The math has been around for over a century, which is why Shane commented about Algebra.....
