Subject: Mixing Poser and Studio content

Apologies if this has been asked before but I literally only downloaded Studio a couple of hours ago.

What is the scope of mixing both Daz and Poser content?

I can see that Studio manages Poser and Studio formatted content separately but, as far as I can see, Studio content seems like a superset of Poser content, i.e. having the Poser runtime folder hierarchy but additional, Studio only directories, above that.

If I have content that I want to use in both Studio and Poser, can I just install it once but use it in both Studio and Poser? Do I install it as Studio or Poser format?

Many thanks.

You only have to install it once.

DAZ Studio can be pointed to any Poser runtime and the poser Content can be used pretty seamlessly in DS. You only have to isntall it

To do this, open DS

Go to the Content library.  Choose POSER Format.  Right click ON Poser Format and choose Add a runtime directory.   Once that's done, click that directory and all the poser content will be available to you.   The Majority of it will work just fine.

To go the other way,  if the DS Product is in runtime format with a Geometry folder and the standard Poser runtime, it will probably work in Poser.  IF the Product has a data folder, AND it's not G3F, you'll have to use a progarm from DAZ called DSON.  This works best with Poser Pro 2014 and will only help if the vendor included the CF (compatibility format) files.    DSON is a Python scrpt that is sometimes free.  You will need to install it to your Main Poser install and then Map your DS "MY Library" folder as a poser runtime.

Thanks. So if I have a download that is mainly Poser but has additional Studio files, do I install it in the Poser or Studio library?

I.e. should any/all content that can be used in both be installed in a Poser library leaving purely Studio content in a Studio library?

What I'm mainly wondering is that since Studio content can contain Poser runtime content with the addition of Studio only additional directories at the same level, e.g. data etc., then why can't a Poser library be a subset of a Studio library?

Thanks again.

If you're using DAZ Install Manager, you would use the same path whether you are installing Poser-format content or DS-format content.  There are two special folders whivch must be directly underneath the folder you designate as a content folder for DS to handle its files correctly:  Data and Runtime.  DS will not display Poser-format files if they are outside of Runtime, nor will it display DS-format folders if they are inside Runtime (although if there is a matching Poser-format file it will use the DS-format file instead and display the Poser-format file with a scroll symbol in the upper left corner).

Much thanks, will give the combined library a go.

Some stuff has files for both Poser and DS if you want things to look correct in DS you will need the DS files, shaders and mats don't always translate well from program to program. Lights and Cameras are other things that don't really work across platforms.
