Subject: Blender DFF import/OBJ export

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 22 September 2013 at 2:24 PM · edited Thu, 18 April 2024 at 8:46 PM

I can import a GTA (Grand Theft Auto) DFF file into blender but when I export it as an OBJ file, Blender doesn't keep the material file names and group file names that are listed in the DFF file.

Is there a way or export the OBJ file with the correct material file names and the correct group file names?

Thanks.

Hello cherokee69

Which version of Blender are you using and what options are you choosing in the obj export options it may look diffirent from mine since I am using 2.68a but when you are about to export and where you will save your export you should see on your left hand side might need to scroll but an Obj export option panel See my attached image as an example. I also looked for further information on the Grand Theft Auto DFF format and the only information I found about loading it and transforming it to an obj format was using a set of scripts that were written for 3DS Max I have not come across anything similar for Blender as of yet so hope that it might be something as simple as the obj export options I mentioned at the begining of my post hope it helps some

I'm using 2.64 and I've noticed even on import, Blender adds the Mat_XXXX_001 (usually  where the XXXX is would be the model name and the 001 continues on through all numbers, like, 002, 003, 004, etc for each material file) for materials. I've downloaded 2.68a but can't find the DFF Import/Export plugin to go with it.

I did check those items you suggested but nothing worked in saving the original material names without Blender renaming them.

Do you have any other ideas on that.

Thanks

In further research I came across this link but seems not regularly updated since the comment thread is over a year old so would test with it cuation http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=21598 second here is a link to the Blender wiki with a list of add on scripts which will gives you an idea of which ones are stable and which are still in developement http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts  regretfully I saw none specific for importing dff files

Hope it helps wish there was more that I could find but one of the advantages of Blender is that it is always expanding what it can do and what might not be possible today might well be achieved not to long in the future.

What do you mean by "it doesn't do anything"? Doesn't import?
