Subject: Need tips on using brushes Like Rons Brushes

CStrauss ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2011 at 2:51 PM · edited Thu, 18 April 2024 at 3:10 AM

I purchased some of Rons brushes based on the promo pictures wanting to learn how to do stuff like that with those types of brushes in photoshop. First step was to get some of his brushes I have that done.

But second step was to install them and play around and see what I can do which unfortunatly not much, lol. I guess I am looking for some tips and advice, tutorials on how to use these types of brushes in photoshop to create effects and what not like in the picture I included from rons rips brush set. I use his as an example, but there are many brushes out there like this and just want to really learn how to use them correctly to get the effects they are intended to achieve.

I am sure it has to do with playing with blending options, layer options, and other then using the default black and white colors. Again input, examples, or what ever someone can give me would be appreciated :)

Go to the Tutorials and put in a search for "Photoshop brushes" and you will see several helpful tutorials on techniques and effects. Hope this helps.

I've always hated that, they seriously false advertise brushes, especially Ron. It's like "Oh just drag and drop, that's it!." Sorry man that's not how you advertise a product, it's much more than just dragging and dropping with effects, etc. You have to do a lot more just to get the full effects. I have practiced with a few free blood brushes a friend of mine made, when she told me how to get the effects. For some reason it still didn't look nowhere near as realistic as hers did, so either she post worked it real good or she did something else to it. Truth is, I gave up with Brushes and Effects. Their cool looking, but require some actual work if you want them to look like the advertisements. Most vendors lie and say they don't post work their stuff, some are honest enough to tell the truth. I can definitely tell when something was post worked in a scene.

To be fair to Ron, in his promos he does show a preview of his brushes with no effects on them, on some previews they are a bit small, but they are there and he also shows what can be accomplished with them in the program when you have some knowledge of photoshop which to me is a good thing to see as I see the potential for his brushes.
