Subject: Aligning Move Gizmo, How Please??

midge170 ( ) posted Tue, 08 December 2009 at 1:36 PM · edited Thu, 18 April 2024 at 2:16 PM

Okay so I managed to solve the problem of creating a corrugated sheeting roof, But!!!
As with all things Max for me personally it seems that solving one puzzle raises at least one more.  In this case it is how do I align my Move Gizmo with an object, in this case the sloping roof?  I have tried the help files but came up blank.
I know that if you are in create mode and you select autogrid then the gizmo aligns to whatever piece of geometry you hover it over, such as a sloping roof  How do I achieve this when not in create mode, as an aid to modifying my mesh.  This is my second question today so sorry to bug you all, but as I said in my previous thread Max is such a learning curve for the beginner.

Thanks in advance for any advice

I have no idea what you mean by 'create mode' so I'm just going to go ahead and explain how people normally align one objects transform gizmo to another objects transform gizmo.

Select the object you want to change, click the Hierarchy tab, then the IK button>Affect Pivot Only then in the toolbar, click the Align button then seelct the object to align the first objects pivot point to - a window will pop-up - choose the appropriate check-boxes, click okay.

What the fuck?? What a way to complicate the life of newbies. Just go "Local Aligned" mode, that's ALL. My God...

You realize the response you are commenting on is 7 years old? It seems unlikely this conversation would still be relevant to either individual now.
