What is the best way to align a set of points to the center so when I add a mirror modifier there is no seam at the center?
Thanks.

if i get you right you want to know how to keep the 2 halfs from seperating at the center in mirror modifier
thats easy enable clipping
if you start with it enabled the central axis will (if the mesh is centered) will always remain at the objects center while in object mode switching to edit mode you can move it but you will not effect the set center

There's a number of ways... but the easiest is to select the points (vertices) - in Edit mode, vertex mode - you want to centre, then hit [N] and [NUMPAD][1] whilst the mouse cursor is in the 3D view window. Scroll to the top of that menu of stuff to 'transform', and for X: axis enter 0 (zero) and enter.

better explanation
CTRL+TAB edit mode
enable mirror and clipping
then start working
you can enable or disable at ant time
applt modifier before export
but you do need to set the axis right at first or it will be way off

Hey. I just wanted to pop by and thank everyone for their tips.
IRL is being a little challenging. I haven't actually had a chance to sit down and practice what you've preached, but I didn't want to leave you thinking your contribution went unnoticed or unappreciated.
Soon as I have some time to sit down and practice, I'll come back with an update. ;-)
