Hello, I just purchase UVmapping Pro. I make my clothing in marvelous designer and export as an object but when I opened the UV map the clothing map is all overlapped. I thought I could figure it out once I got UV mapping pro but I am lost on how to use the software even after reading the help files and tutors. Can someone please tell me or point me to a tutor on unwrapping or making UV map work correctly?

Thanks
Kimberly

Add on note: If I export from the MD software as a unified uv map object I can get a uv map that is not overlapping but the part of the shirt run along the bottom of large square. And I did figure out how to put a rectangle around a part of the clothing, like the front of the shirt to move it but can it be moved any place on the image to work in poser?  I assume there was to be rules on what can be placed where on the uv map I will map a texture map to decorate clothing in adobe cs5.

Any advice would be wonderful and welcome.

Sorry, not having a good day. When I import a uv map to poser pro 2012, I get tiles instead of fill coverage no matter what advice in am given in this forum on the poser section.  I figure it must be me needing a better UV map and how I ended up here.

Thanks for your time.

Attached Link: Creating multiple texture map templates

Have you had a look at this tutorial for creating multiple texture map templates?

You can also select by material and then hide all facets not assigned to that material to see what parts of the model are assigned to the material you selected.

The facets are overlapping because Wavefront (.obj) format models only allow one set of texture coordinates.  Artists sometimes maximize texture space by assigning different parts of a model to different maps and/or materials and using multiple textures.

So if my clothing has six different section to it, then I going to have six different texture maps.  Correct?  Or can I put the sections together to make one texture map?

Thanks

If the sections overlap and you don't want the overlappnig facets to share the same texture, they need to use different texture maps.

You can also select the sections, shrink them down and move them so none overlap and then you can use a single texture map.

Just remember you're updating the model (it contains the UV coordinates) so you'll need to resave the model along with the new texture map templates.

Welcome to the forum and thanks to Steve for jumping in and tackling the question. Keep an eye on the forum as I will be doing another video tut soon.  It may give you some ideas.  I will be demoing the cyl mapping and cyl mapping interactive mapping options on a 55 gal drum that I uploaded to ShareCG.

Remember to name all your groups and materials in your modeler, that way it will be much easier when you go to uv map and need to select them.

If you want to try an alternative approach, this is mine.

Maybe someone here can help me. I color coded the dress part, made my uv map, designed the texture map and still I am getting tiles. I can't figure out how to adjust this or stop it from giving me tiles.

Here are some screen shot. I am working with the green section of the shirt.

Here is the orginal dress in MD software

Here is the UV map turned into a texture map for the green section:

As you can see on this poser screen shot the green area is a tile instead of the shirt section I made:

Thank you for any help on fixing this problem.
Kimberly

How did you determine where to place the texture for the green section?

Show us how your dress model looks in UV Mapper so we can see the mapping please.

Hi, I picked the green by picking the material number at the top. See on this screen shot the Material 1420. I added the view map so you could see that too.

These are the uv maps. I imported the object to poser with the color codes in it.

Four ruffle files but they are all the same so here is one of them.

Here on the forum I was having the same issue with a differnet UV map layout made into a texture map.  http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2860688&page=1#message_4019209

Thank you for your time

I'm guessing the settings in Poser are the problem, but please show us a screen shot of the model in UVMapper so we can see the mapping.

Thanks for everyone's help. I going to go back and do some reading ( and re-reading) on the material room and UV mapping before asking more questions.

If you send me the dress obj file, I will look it over and see if I can tell what is wrong.

Hi, I decided to post a link to the runtime file to see if you can tell me why I can't get uv map that works and one title. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Here is a video tut on cyl mapping.  Please watch it in 720pHD or it looks really bad.

Here is the 55 gallon drum to use in the tut.

**I will check your file and see if it will open on my old poser 6.

I have been making the clothing in marvelous designer then exporting as an object and importing in either poser or daz which hadn’t given the clothing any real UV map. I figure out I have to open the object in UV mapper then save as an object to get the uv map to work in either software. I just simple didn’t connect the dots till now.

Thank you all the help
Kimberly
