found this article for rainbows.  something about HSV->RGB conversion function.

http://objectmix.com/python/352080-how-make-rainbow-rgb-values.html

would someone help me to understand to  make this into poser rainbow?

can a custom color node be made from this?

thanks.  i didn't pass classes after pre-calculus

Are you asking about Python or asking about materials - or both?

And you ask "can a custom color node be made from this?" - we cannot make custom nodes of any kind. So no.

There is already an HSV node in Poser materials. It will make a rainbow color table from any grayscale pattern.

Setting these up in matmatic is easy, if you use matmatic.

Assuming you have a pattern in "pattern" you would do:

HSV(YELLOW, pattern, 1, 1)

rainbow snowcone time out. cuz 7 hours of fail can be depressing.

thanks BB!  rainbows with hsv magick.

after reading the colorsys info, my first thought was the possibilities of working it into a node like color_ramp or wood.  mentioning the wood because it has rings and rainbows usually arch.

if one wants a spectrally accurate rainbow, use bill's shader.  banding is likely as saturation increases.  however, if one wants a smooth day-glo rainbow, try bill's technique he used on his poser 6 lite meter, modified below.  to get more roygbiv, blend two ramps.

hippie rainbow dayglo

p.s. that user defined 22 node in your example might work even better.

blend 2 ramps!

and add in BB's examples for the arches.

I know, lol. i was just messing around with it all yesterday, you get better ones with the tile option on a very blurry mortar. But this does open a multitude of ideas, I didn't realise you could get a rainbow colours in the mat room with nodes, :)

You've mistakenly assumed the "V" coordinate goes from 0 to 1 along each hair. The UV coordinates go with the skin. You are reading the U coordinate of the location of the base of each hair - all of which are near the top of the head UV map, so in the blue-violet range.

If you want rainbow hair, you have to get the hidden "W" coordinate. The W coordinate is a 3rd texture dimension going 0 to 1 from base of hair to tip. The only node that can access this coordinate is the Hair node.

A couple years ago I figured out a way to extract the value of the "W" coordinate and use it to make rainbow hair.

misty, you see he's using a colour ramp there.  would suggest losing the user-defined hsv node until it has been further demonstrated in this regard.

MistyLaraCarrara posted Tue, 31 July 2012 at 9:33 AM

the 3rd texture dimension !

woww, thanks!
