I'm new at PSP and I just try to learn the basics in this program. Now I have a problem.

I have a simple background layer (raster) and a text layer (vector). I align the vector layer in the center, but it's not really in the middle of the canvas. :(

If I convert the layer into a raster and then "center in canvas", it is in the middle. But I don't want to destroy my vector layer.

Has someone an idea what's wrong?

I'm using PSP X5.

The screenshot I attached shows my problem. The white one is a raster layer and centered, the black one is the vector layer. sigh

Margy,  While your text i still a vector, you should be able to do  Objects > Align > Center in Canvas.  At least, I can do that in earlier versions, including up to psp X4.

That's what I did and the result is my screenshot. :( That's my problem.

When I tried this, psp seems to act like there is a space at the end of the text. Adding  a space at the begining of the text helped.

Today I break my own personal record for number of days for being alive.

Thanks RedPhantom. Yes this is the problem. I tried your suggestion and it's more in the center, but not 100%.

You can still see the black one (the vector layer with the space at the beginning). That's so odd. :(

I think the "center" feature for vector layers will only be accurate with mono-spaced fonts. That is, it aligns the center, but the various letters on either side may have different spacings.

Thing is, particularly with words like "Test", the visual weight of the first and last letters is quite different, so an arithmetically perfect centering won't look right when you're done. I always center text "by hand".

I also make sure my image dimensions are  odd numbers, so there actually is a pixel in the center. ;)
