I learned quite a bit about modeling in college, but never managed to get any info on mapping. So, I can create nice models that work really well in Poser, but I know nothing about mapping textures and I am just basically using the default zones that poser sees.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to start? Turorials etc. How about programs? any suggestion on which ones to use?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I use to have a really basic tutorial in regards to mapping, if I can find it, would you like it.....I mean it was basic.  Sharen

Welcome to the forum.

I highly recommend getting your hands on uvmapper pro.  Click on the banner at the top of the header above and it will take you there.  There is also a link to onsite and offsite tutorials below that.  In addition I have started a video tutorial series at YouTube located here.  You will have to rewind the YouTube tut.  I do not know why it wants to start halfway through.  Downloading it in 720P to your hard drive will give you the clearest view of everything.

Welcome to the wacky world of UV mapping. :-)

I have some tutorials. ^ Heidi's PDF is aimed at beginners, my hybrid RoadKill / UVMapper tutorial is a little more involved but not overly so. I'd echo Dan's recommendation of UVMapper Pro - it was the first 3D application I paid for - but while you're getting started, the free version will do the job if cash is tight.

What sort of models will you be mapping? Organic (people, clothing, animals) or mechanical (buildings, cars, furniture)?

Thanks Sharen.

EnglishBob's tutorial and several others can be accessed from the Offsite Tutorials link in the forum header.  I recommend them highly.

In the forum header above there are two links.  One is for forum based tutorials.  The other is for off site tutorials.  Check those first.  If you still need something, I will try to put one together.

Well I was looking through those and just having a hard time finding something. I will look again and see if I have missed something.

Is there something specific you are trying to do?  I did find my basic tutorial that was published in the Renderosity magazine years ago, do you still want it?  If so IM me your email address and I will send it to you....but let me know if there is something specific, cause it might not be in the instructions I made?  Sharen

I can put together a video for you, but I am not going to be able to get to it until after Thanksgiving.

Here is your video tut.  Please watch it in 720pHD or it looks really bad.

Here is the 55 gallon drum to use in the tut.
