Subject: Getting Started with mapping- Help please!
I learned quite a bit about modeling in college, but never managed to get any info on mapping. So, I can create nice models that work really well in Poser, but I know nothing about mapping textures and I am just basically using the default zones that poser sees.
Does anyone have any suggestions where to start? Turorials etc. How about programs? any suggestion on which ones to use?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the forum.
I highly recommend getting your hands on uvmapper pro. Click on the banner at the top of the header above and it will take you there. There is also a link to onsite and offsite tutorials below that. In addition I have started a video tutorial series at YouTube located here. You will have to rewind the YouTube tut. I do not know why it wants to start halfway through. Downloading it in 720P to your hard drive will give you the clearest view of everything.Free men do not ask permission to bear arms!!

Welcome to the wacky world of UV mapping. :-)
I have some tutorials. ^ Heidi's PDF is aimed at beginners, my hybrid RoadKill / UVMapper tutorial is a little more involved but not overly so. I'd echo Dan's recommendation of UVMapper Pro - it was the first 3D application I paid for - but while you're getting started, the free version will do the job if cash is tight.
What sort of models will you be mapping? Organic (people, clothing, animals) or mechanical (buildings, cars, furniture)?
Note: the forum ebots haven't worked properly for months, meaning I have to manually check threads where I remember posting or subscribing. If I appear to be ignoring you, it's probably just poor memory on my part. :)

Is there something specific you are trying to do? I did find my basic tutorial that was published in the Renderosity magazine years ago, do you still want it? If so IM me your email address and I will send it to you....but let me know if there is something specific, cause it might not be in the instructions I made? Sharen
