Subject: dzinstall.ini ???

ockham ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2008 at 6:43 PM · edited Wed, 24 April 2024 at 9:18 AM

So I finally knuckled under to the V4 peer pressure.  Downloaded
the installer, started it, get this error message:

There has been an error.

Error reading INI file C:Program FilesCommon FilesDAZdzInstall.ini

The application will exit now

Do I have to install some kind of secret DAZ enabler before installing
DAZ merchandise?

See if the linked thread helps.

Thanks for the link, but it didn't do any good.  The Xcopy command
assumes that dzInstall.ini was already in the source location,
but it's not anywhere on my computer, so it didn't copy anything.

Ah yes, now I remember why I stopped doing business with DAZ.

I do recall the installer looking for a file, but I had it because I had DAZ|Studio thanks to the fact that when I installed the free Bryce from Daz,  it also insisted on installing DAZ|Studio. I don't like having to install programs that I don't need, want or use in order to get another program installed.

If all you need is one particular file, then the program should install it, not look for it on your computer or install an entirely different program so that it gives you the needed file!

Success!

I created a dummy text file (a few spaces) with the
right name and location, and the installer proceeded just fine.

So the installer doesn't need any info from that file, it only
needs a filename and folder.

That is pretty crafty!!!

Even with D|S installed I got no love here. The original installers worked great with Linux before they went and got this new one. I guess this is what I get for asking DAZ for a Linux compatible version of D|S...

Hehe. I've been watching the hole in your egg getting bigger for the last hour or so. Very cool! ^__^

I rescued him earlier today and I'm thrilled that he hatched today of all days... my birthday! :)

Thanks :)  It didn't start out very good (sick kitty and the vets...huge bill!), but it improved (kitty needs blood pressure pills but has no fatal illness... and payment plan), and to top it off my egg hatched!

Funny, I never thought I'd hear me having to say "I'm 46" .  Aging is supposed to happen to other people! Not to me!!

Online Now!

You should have a copy of dzinstall.ini if you've run any of the immediately preceding installers (the one showing a floppy with the DAZ logo on the label) - though it may not be where the new type want it if you run a non-English version of Windows. It does seem to be a simple inability to create the file if it isn't found, as noted.
