As you may have guessed, the theme for Workshop #2 will be 'Light and Frame this scene'. So here is how we are going to play. I prepared the following scene especially for the occasion (I was inspired by an amazing presentation at Siggraph by ryan Church, but that's another story :) ). The scene was created on Vue 4. This one is about 2.3 Mo to download. After downloading it, you will have to light the scene, set the picture format you prefer and place the camera in your own point of view. You can : - use as many lights as you want - use any light types (point, spotlight, directional...) - use any light model (standard, global illumination, radiosity, image base lighting) - use any light options (volumetric, light gels, etc) - use any camera option (such as depth of field) - use selective light and shadows (if you have Vue 4 Prom, Vue 5 with lighttune or Vue Infinite). You cannot : - change the textures - change the atmosphere - use postwork - add props to the scene Color is allowed as long as it complies with the rules above. Remember, this is about playing with lights and cameras :) As usual, you should create a new discussion thread for your own work in progress and return to this announcement thread to post your final version. I hope you will have fun with this one :) Good luck everybody !

Hello. I have a question about how much can be changed.

I see we can change the light model (to say GR or volumetric). But am I allowed to adjust the light balance or intensity or ambient light color? From how I read it, I got the impression that I could change anything in the light tab of the atmosphere editor but nothing else. Is this correct? Its the "you cannot change the atmosphere" yet the light model change requires changing the atmosphere that has me confused. :)

Thanks for pointing that out. Your assumption is correct. I guess everything in the 'Light' tab of the atmosphere settings should be fair game. I was referring more to the sky color, clouds, fog and haze when I said you could not change the atmosphere.

Excellent. Thanks!

Hi. Just trying to download it. But when I do, my browser just fills up with code. Is this meant to happen. Am I downloading it correctly? Matthew

Try to right click on the link and select 'Save As'. Sometimes, your browser may want to open the file instead of saving it - that should for it to save it instead.

The link has moved when the backroom were displaced to another server. Here is the new link... I will update both Workshop pages after the migration of the forums to PHP tomorrow.

ok  I see the problem here. It looks as though renderosity provided addition web space  of there website for use of back door material. I will contact Stacey G  see if this is avialable and if not how they plan on either one reorganize the system so we can use it or I might have to get my own web page going and use it as our backroom. either way this will take time to get responses . Sorry Thelby this has taken time to get back to you and I appreciate your holding tight ..agiel and me both had a lot going on in that year and I wasn't as available as I am now.

Ok  I wasn't give the user name or password to control the back room yet. So here is what i plan on doing once I get that info ..Is try to find the links ageil originally got and see if we can re introduce them back ...Sounds like a lot of tech work but I am up for the challenge.

I kinda of like the light and frame idea.

Quote - I kinda of like the light and frame idea.

Yeah, I like it too. They do one over at CGSociety
LINK
but it is way advanced and beyond me so far, but I have tried on my own to see what I can come up with. If we started one we could have it last like 3 months, because it is hard to come up with a complete scene in a few days after someone wins. Then the winner could come up with the next. Kind of like the way Andy does the terrain challenge in Terragen, but we would be using a complete scene, inside or outside.

Thanks Again,
Thelby
