Hank was one of the first settlers exposed to the mutation. Unlike many others, he retained almost all of his intelligence and speech. He understands tactics, knows how to track prey, and can organize other mutants into hunting groups.
The problem is that Hank no longer sees himself as a settler.
He sees himself as the leader of a new species.
