Notes: The young tree forms a low, dense bushy crown. When it matures, it forms a columnar tree up to 15m and may grow taller. The tree is found sporadically on the banks of rivers and rarely found near the sea. It prefers clay soil and is usually found inland in its range from the eastern Indian Ocean to the western Pacific including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Guinea, and northern and eastern Australia, among other countries. In areas of heavier flooding the tree often forms masses of aerial (snorkel) roots to help oxygenate it.
