Marketplace Conversion Updates

Shop with confidence and enjoy the NEW Renderosity Marketplace!
See below for Marketplace updates and enhancements.

Just last month, on January 16th, the Renderosity Marketplace was converted to a new Bondware 3.0 platform which is a PHP based system that provides a lot of flexibility and speed over the old Bondware EZ software that we had been running on since 1998.

The old EZ software had some design issues that made adding new features time consuming, difficult and slowed down site performance.

We spent seven years developing Renderosity with old EZ software. There were a lot of highly customized features that we had not yet developed in PHP when we launched the new Marketplace. Our goal is to develop most of those features in our New Marketplace.

It is like starting over. However, enhancements and updates are coming daily. Please bear with us during these temporary growing pains. Once it's complete we believe it will be worth the momentary inconvenience of the transition.

Already, we have experienced site speed improvements as a result of the change. Site speed improvement has been the most requested thing we have all wanted. It is also good to note that most members are buying & downloading just fine now and we're quickly getting back to business as usual.

As we go through this process, we are listening to your feedback and working on the requests for the features you love the most.
Here are the items that we have taken care of so far: February 24th: We have added a few new features to the MP.
  • A Whats New graphic link is now available on the main MP Front Page.
  • Other Best Selling Items: is now listed on product description pages.
  • Front Page Articles for Exclusive products and on-sale products are now being rotated on the main Renderosity Front Page.
  • February 20th: Once again we have made some changes to the MP front page due to popular demand. We have added new graphic navigation buttons to spice it up and make it easier to locate specific products. February 16th: Due to popular requests from customers, we have added some navigation buttons to the main MarketPlace page. We now have the "Shop", "Search", "Account", "Cart" and "Check out" buttons located on the top of the main MarketPlace page. February 14th: Exclusive Products now show a text statement that they are exclusive when viewing the product description page. This is being shown under the "Read Me" file. February 10th: The Favorite Vendors functionality is now back in production! We have migrated all the Favorite Vendors data from the community over to the new MarketPlace. There is a new link on the MP side bar called My Homepage. Members can now add Favorite Vendors as needed. Product release notifications will be sent to any member that has you listed as a Favorite Vendor! To add a new Favorite Vendor select My Homepage from the MarketPlace sidebar, select the Edit link to the right of Favorite Vendors and enter their name. In addition, there is a new link available on your Account page called Credit Account. The Credit Account will display available in-store credit totals for refunds issued. These funds can be used to purchase items in the MarketPlace. The Credit Account link on the Account page was implemented to help customers easily identify how much in-store credit they have available. February 3rd: Public Wishlists are available on a member's homepage! Now you can purchase gifts for all your friends directly from their public wish list located on their Artist Homepage. In addition, the system will no longer block you from purchasing a gift for someone if it's already been purchased for yourself. We had a minor bug in the system that wouldn't allow you to purchase a gift for someone if you'd already purchased it for yourself, but this is fixed now. And it *DOES* check to be sure that the gift recipient hasn't gotten this product before, so there will be no duplicate purchases. So if you have someone to buy a gift for, take advantage of shopping with confidence, and get that gift for a friend that you've been waiting to purchase :) February 3rd: Another frequently requested feature has been implemented! Shoppers now get additional product information on the bottom of the product page showing: Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought: This buying tool was requested to give shoppers additional information on the items they may also need. January 27th: One of the most requested features by customers and merchants is now back! Product Reviews! Here are some highlights: - We have some nice new star images. - We are using full stars (no more 1/2 stars). Star rating will be rounded up as needed. - Customers can locate the Product Review page from the top of the Accounting page. - Once a review has been left by the customer it will no longer appear on their Product Review page. - The sort by Ranking link in the MarketPlace works. - Customers have 60 days after the date of purchase to leave a product review. - All old Product Review data has been migrated to the new system. January 27th, we implemented some of the requested enhancements to the Shopping Cart and Wishlist. Now, as many people have requested, you can move items between the Shopping Cart and Wishlist! The Wishlist now shows an item total. And, you can move items back and forth between your Public and Private Wishlists! Please note: The Public Wishlist is not fully integrated at this time but will be when we tie more of the community items over to the new MarketPlace. January 26th, we implemented an additional security feature in the Renderosity Marketplace that has been requested for a long time. For buying confidence and protection, we now require cookies be accepted to purchase in the marketplace. This ensures that the Renderosity Marketplace, without a doubt, is a great place to shop! Shop with confidence! Add to Cart now checks for duplicate purchases. One of the biggest requests we have had since the migration to the new MarketPlace system is to have the Add to Cart button check to make sure that you haven't purchased the item in the past. This has now been implemented. If you try to add an item to your cart and it has been purchased in the past or is already in your shopping cart you will receive a message letting you know. This is a very helpful feature for customers who have a large purchase history. The On Sale (e-bot) notifications sent to customers who have an item on their wishlist when it goes on-sale was being sent out every morning rather than one time on the day the item went on-sale. This has been fixed to only send out one e-bot the day the sale starts. Also added were: Add to Cart button under Thumbs Whats Hot link Sale End Dates Wishlist Chat

There are also many features we are working on and will be coming soon; like, Product Referrals Product Updates see & sort updated items from your Account / Items page

With any new software, we have found a few bugs along the way. We are very sorry for these inconveniences and were glad that you have been so great to work with us through these issues.

Your input is valuable to our future and were excited to have you with us on this historical event at Renderosity.

Please check back often for important announcements about upcoming features and community conversions.

Your Grateful Renderosity Team!!!

I have to say I prefered the layout of the old shop, but I guess I'll adjust. The one feature I'm missing out on big time at the moment is the notifications we used to get when favorite merchants uploaded new items. I don't always have time to be browsing the marketplace looking for what's out and new and that was a great time saver. Please, please please find a way to bring that back as well. :) Thanks and keep up the good work. John

Thank you for the update. Like jwiest, I don't really like the layout make-over (I got used to having things spread apart, rather than crowded in the middle) but I'll adjust. However, if the "favorite merchant has uploaded a new item" notification is indeed not implemented, it will be sorely missed and could potentially affect sales as well, so I urge your to re-consider...

Problems? After login when I go the marketplace suddenly I'm a visitor and unable to shop. Patricia Valleau

LillianH ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 27 January 2006

Hi vallpa, Thank you for your post. The marketplace is now on a different server with a different codeset, so the login doesn't carry over at present. This issue will be resolved when the community is also migrated over to Bondware 3.0. Until then, you will need to login and accept cookies when buying in the marketplace. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support. Best wishes, Lillian

The new organizing features are good, but I have to admit I liked the old store better. This looks like everyone else's store - it's lost the distinctive feel. The thing I miss the most, though, is the REVIEWS. I always read them, and I always tried to leave helpful ones, and I really REALLY miss seeing what people who have bought an item before have to say about it. I'm sure issues will continue to be ironed out. Thanks for keeping the site fresh, and being willing to try to improve. -servelle

Addendum: I see that reviews have been re-implemented since I last looked at teh mp. Wonderful! Thank you.

Sorry to say this i like the old layout better. it seems too clutered now! now the look is like everyone else's.. very unimpressive. try again!!! -- odd --

I am glad to read some of the "fixes" to this situation. I still will not shop until I am again comfortable with the layout and functions. Your 10% coupon is not enough to "lure" me into using the marketplace... frankly I would have expected a larger percent to really entice your customers to "come back".... I have items in my wish list, but they will just have to wait....and wait...

willowelf ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 01 February 2006

I would love to see the return of "related items". This made shopping much easier for me and because of this feature, I bought items that I would have normally missed. Will this feature be returning?

I like the look of the new marketplace. The problem I am having is that, although I am logged in everywhere else on Renderosity. when I click on the marketplace I must log in. Unfortunately I can not remember my passowrd, and I have requested it be sent to me twice, I still haven't recieved it.

LillianH ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 03 February 2006

Hi Moonbow, We are glad you like the new marketplace! If you still have not received your password, please post in the MarketPlace Customer Support forum located here: Best wishes, Lillian Hawkins Renderosity Marketing Manager

"Customers have 60 days after the date of purchase to leave a product review." R'Osity Weekly Newsletter: Feb. 3, 2006 That's blatant discrimination against procrastinators like myself! :o) Don't get me wrong; I love leaving buyer comments... it's just that... I don't always get around to -using- items I've purchased until some months down the line. Case in point: I purchased queequeg's "Staci Casuals" on February 3rd of last year and didn't get around to posting a review of it until August 25th (since that's how long it took me to use some of the other items rather than just the tennis shoes). thinks they're just trying to get people to rush through product reviews and not take the time to actually look into what they've bought! You city folk just need to learn how to slow down. :o)

On my birthday 27 January - A crone I am now, and I share the date with Lewis Carroll, it happens! I see the stars and OPINIONS are back, a few other concessions, but really the old ways, the layout, the family feel of Renderosity, you see, that has been lost because we all lost trust. But that is the great thing about art; it is a living thing dependent on an individual's perception and then to a group's perception, actively and as a viewer. In the 60's,Dylan goes electric,he betrays these people but also liberates these OTHER people. When - if - human beings ever want to stop leveling each other, compete, surpass, all that waste and know that it is certain we can only know what life is like from behind our own eyes and say, "Hey, let's SHARE this idea with those guys!Lets all tell each other what its like behind our own eyes.Write books.Paint.Music." So my essential comment is as an individual, I prefer the sylistic of the 'back in the day' when but I can appreciate the needs you have in a very competitive market and STILL have a good time. But in that case, why change at all? Because if the people who bought you and will run you are as cool as you and we should trust that, wouldn't you want to prove it by keeping the 'back in the day' style. PUZZLING. I love you guys. I love the merchants. IS DEBBIEM STILL THERE?

While changes to store software for security reasons is something everyone understands (I hope), I too must say I liked the old shop better. For me, it's all about being the shopper, as I am not selling anything myself. I spend my money here, so what viewpoints I have must be colored by that. My number one complaint is that there is no longer a storefront, an easy way to go directly to the category for the application/character/theme/ you're looking for, a mini-portal if you will, with "what's new" features, "what's hot" and so on. I am aware that there is an inline link area at the top of the market pages where you can choose among categories, but it's absolutely not as clearly set out and easy to navigate. I had to look for it and I got annoyed doing so. It doesn't help that opening new links is very slow either.

dicey ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 07 February 2006

Not really any complaints about the new layout...seems to be working okay. My only real beefs are the "favorite merchant has uploaded a new item" notification isn't a feature any more and is MUCH missed. Also when there is an update to a previously purchased item it is frustrating to have to go through every purchase to figure out where the item is so I can download the update. Too bad you don't still have the items listed. Other than these two annoyances it looks pretty good.

LillianH ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 08 February 2006

Hi dicey, Thank you for the feedback and for letting us know the features that are important to you. The favorite merchant notifications should be coming by the end of this week. We are also having a look at the product update layout to make that more user friendly. Just wanted to let you know we are still working on things and we hear you! I liked the old marketplace, now you look like poser pros, odd whatever, and all the other stores that I cant find anything in. Any chance you will bring back the old format? Why does it hurt so much to be original in format, Renderosity had the distinction of being different from the other stores. For someone with poor eyesight, the little dinky thumbs just don't attract me to buy stuff.

The Favorite Vendors functionality is now back in production! While I do prefer the old store, I suppose the new onw works. But, why was the search function so completely crippled? It is nothing like it used to be, alas. That is what I miss the most - the old search. Like, say, for the $5 items, or if you know you got X dollars to shop for, you could search for that. Please tell me that this function will come back!

jwiest ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 15 March 2006

While I realize that we can go to the "My Homepage" and add in favorite merchants, can we have the old "add to favorites" type button back too please? It certainly was easier to add new merchants to the favorites list that way than to go through the current procedure.

starbase1 ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 16 March 2006

Sorry but I too liked the old layout. But it's not a big thing. IOne thing I do miss - maybe I just haven't found it, was the list of previous purchases. I often found this inspirational, reminding me of good merchants I had dealt with previously...

WildPepsiChild ( posted at 12:00AM Mon, 27 March 2006

Personally the the new shop layout took a little while to adjust to but overall I think it is a great improvement. The following words of Nicollo Machiavelli spring to mind - "There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things." and "The question is, then, do we try to make things easy on ourselves or do we try to make things easy on our customers, whoever they may be?" I think in the first case, there will always be resistance to change and implimenting such a change is always done with tepidation balanced against needs - which leads to the second, giving greater flexibility in the maintenance and growth of the shop as new markets open up whilst providing the customer with added functionality and speed of operation. I particularly like the ability to review items that were once sold and now retired, and the better management of wishlists and the email alerts. Cathy

The new wishlist is blazing fast! Night and day compared to the old one. Any chance for some sorting options there? Like by Vendor or Price? (some of us have :😊: very extensive wishlists which could use some help) Thanks for all the work. The speed improvements make up for any glitches encountered while further improvements are being made.

I liked the old setup better because when you went to the MP it knew who you were. Now the MP calls you a visiter and you have to sign all over again.?
