June 2009 Artist of the Month - bogwoppet
June 1, 2009 1:03 am
Each month the Renderosity community votes on The Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... June's AOM is Tony Hayes [bogwoppet]!
We congratulate Tony for an outstanding collection of works in the Mixed Medium Gallery!
Who is 'bogwoppet', and how did you come to use that name?
The name bogwoppet was thought up by my good friend Grant Nixon, he said it suited me - I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult :)
How long have you been rendering/doing computer graphics?
I first began to play around with computer art in 1994 although my first attempts were dreadful.
Do you have traditional art experience?
I was a professional photographer for many years which gave me a good basic knowledge of light and shadow, composition and POV. Also I spent quite a time working in oil paints and model making.
What are you currently working on?
Following a serious illness and hospitalisation for three months, I'm trying to get back into the swing of things but would like to create more Photoshop-painted pieces like my "Wasteland" image
What software/equipment do you use and why?
I use Photoshop, Poser 7, Vue 6Inf, Mudbox, 3D Studio Max and Cinema 4D. My machine is a Dell XPS 420 with a 24" wide screen Dell monitor and Wacom graphics tablet.
What do you think your best piece of work is and why?
I have many favourite pieces such as "Wasteland", "Titan", "Into The Light" and "Fate" to name but a few. Each piece is a labour of love and it's impossible to pick out one particular picture, It would be like trying to chose a favourite child - I love them all.
Who or what inspires you, and how do you get your ideas?
Ideas can come from many places and I'm greatly inspired by the British artist Les Edwards. Some of my ideas come from watching films, others by checking out the work of other artists such as Tim White, Michael Whelan and Rodney Matthews. Sometimes an idea just pops into my head and I'll run with it to see what happens, these are the best ones.
How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?
The online community is so important for any artist, you make friends, get new ideas and techniques and you can view some superb work in the galleries as well as uploading your own art. I have grown as an artist much faster because of the online community and really enjoy every visit to Renderosity.
Parting Comments / Advice to other Artists?
I would like to thank everyone who voted for me, I really appreciate it. As for giving advice - never be afraid to try new things and experiment and most of all have fun!
We invite you to have a further look at bogwoppet's Renderosity Gallery!
**Have a tutorial, or perhaps some general digital art Tips and Tricks to share? Consider posting to Renderosity's new Video Tutorial Center!**

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.
Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.

I have been a good fan of yours for years my friend! Your inspiration to me helps me carry on despite my set backs and my displeasure with my works. I strive for perfection, and quite honestly I strive for reaching your level! Congrats my friend! Ed "Papachile"
Has to say " WOW " what inspirational work I see here. I am just getting started in this and at times I feel overwhelmed by it all but then I look and read of others and move ahead. Your work is wonderful and gives me inspiration to move ahead......Thanks.
