January 2013 Artist of the Month - cgaddict
January 2, 2013 12:04 am
Each month the Renderosity community votes on the Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... January's AOM is cgaddict!
Who is 'cgaddict' ?
CG Addict is an alias I chose for my online gallery. CG stands for computer graphics, and since that is what I spend the most time creating, I chose to adopt it.
How long have you been working in digital art?
For over a decade now at the very least; I've been drawing since I was a child, and was introduced to digital painting in my early teens. Needless to say, I was hooked!
Do you have any traditional art experience?
Yes, I usually work with pencils when I'm not painting digitally. It's a fun medium and really helps me focus on values, which also benefits my digital painting as well.
What are you currently working on?
I'm currently working on a board game as well as some card game artwork. The subject matter is quite fun so I'm having a blast!
Who, or what, inspires you?
Anything and everything, pretty much. It could be a movie, a piece from another artist, or something spontaneous.
What software is in your digital toolset and why?
All my digital paintings are done using a Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet and Photoshop CS5. I've been very comfortable with Photoshop so I never opted for something else; It works perfectly with my workflow.
What do you think your best piece of work is and why?
Very hard question... But, if I was forced to choose I'd say 'Save Us,' as that's a very powerful image, and it turned out exactly how I had envisioned it from the start which can be rare for me.
I noticed that your gallery contains some commisioned works. What was your most satisfying commisioned piece, and where else might we find some of your works published?
I tend to have a lot of fun with commissioned work due to it's challenge (deadlines can be tough!), but I would say 'Arthurian Legendary Figures' due to the fun subject matter. I really enjoy painting Fantasy, so that project was a great deal of fun for me.
Do you have any tips you would be willing to share on digital painting, or on the software you use?
I would say be patient... Do a lot of speedpaintings (anywhere from 20-40 minutes) daily to help you familiarize yourself with digital painting, and be persistent. Be prepared to work hard if you're serious about painting digitally.
How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?
I've received a lot of positive feedback and exposure from Renderosity which I'm very grateful for, so the community has been absolutely great to me!
Do you have any parting comments, or advice for other artists?
I just wanted to thank you for this opportunity, it means a lot to me to have my artwork featured at one of my favorite art communities, so I'm truly thankful!

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.
Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
