Halloween Contest 2012 - Open For Submissions!

They often say that love happens the moment you lay eyes on that special someone for the very first time. It's as if the stars were perfectly aligned and the two of you were destined to meet in order to share eternity with one another.

But what if your soulmate was really not the person they seemed to be? That after the vows were exchanged and the last bit of cake had been eaten you soon discovered a haunting reality too frightening to even imagine.

This is your opportunity to let your creative juices run wild and interpret what the complete opposite of wedded bliss might be.

The year's theme: Unhappily Ever After

I like the title, theme - could go lots of directions with it, I only hope the winner follows the theme. Prizes are great, but I noticed a drawing tablet wasn't a prize this year - I still need one - lol... looks like I'll have to buy one - lol

In past years with the membership voting to pick winners, it seemed that adhering to the theme had little visible role in the outcome. Some of the best horror is subtle but nothing at all subtle has a chance of winning. Without some better way to handle this I would hesitate to take the time to enter.

what are the prizes? who are the sponsors??? those listed...one word...wow...wot

I agree with mazzam. I used to like when the contest would come around every Halloween. I didn't even bother last year since probably 90% of the entries really had nothing to do with the contest theme. Renderosity should really push this in the guidelines or change the voting process to a closed panel to address this problem. A lot of people work hard to come up with an image that sticks to the theme, only to be beaten out by another entry that may be rendered better or has more marketplace content crammed into it. Just my 2 cents.

I have always enjoyed the Halloween contest here at the 'big R'. I agree with mazzam about adhering to the theme. Still I enjoy seeeing all the interesting and creative entries. Would like to see a change in the voting procedure - maybe a combination of a 'popular' vote by the community and a 'best entry' vote by a panel of the sponsors?

how do I submit?

StaceyG ( posted at 10:36AM Mon, 17 September 2012

The theme description is to inspire ideas and we want to leave it up to the artist what THEIR interpretation of the theme is and that can widely vary from artist to artist. In looking at least year and the year before I can definitely see how all the winners can fit the past themes with varying interpretations. We let the membership vote because for years we didn't and this got tons of upset from members/entrants being more interested in the community voting...

Please see the article as you submit by clicking the category you are wanting to enter in below where it reads, "This year we will be accepting entries into five (5) categories. Please click the appropriate category below to enter your submission."

I see the people have brought up the voting... is there anyway you can make a chart appear after the vote on who is winning like you do for artist of the month??? and when the contest is over, can you display the vote count per art piece? I think we are all interested in what the community finds as the Best... and I'm sure that most people here just want to know if they got any votes - I for one just want to know how close I've come to winning - I hope some way you can show us a vote count, I've been asking for it for years.... I'm just trying to make this contest be all it can be, I look forward to this contest every year - IT'S TRADITION! Speaking of Tradition and Contests, when I got here Renderosity use to have a contest for the Renderosity avatar on the front page... every two years they'd do this... that Tradition stopped.... I would love to see it come back in november so a NEW RENDEROSITY ART LOGO can be put in place JANUARY 1ST - Let's start the new year off with a new look... what do you think?

I don't often do contests, this one is a must because I love the Season and the Holiday. I like the theme, one can go so many directions with the idea.

How many categories can one enter and how many times can you enter in each ?

KristiS ( posted at 10:24AM Wed, 26 September 2012

You can enter one time to each category:)

Just asking about the "Entries must not have previously won a Renderosity Contest" rule. That meants that the entry it's self must not have won a contest and not the -entrant-, right?

KristiS ( posted at 11:00AM Mon, 01 October 2012

That is correct:)

iam agree with XxDarkMessiahxX when i see entry i dont find the theme. ok there is a lot of excellent pics but is a contest so the theme is extremely important no? we do our best to stick to the theme, its half of the work.

Good Luck to all who enter, and remember you got to play to win!

I would like to see the size limit on the animation contest a little higher. 60 seconds and 10 megs is kinda small to work with! Also are there any plans in the future for a stand alone animation contest?

KristiS ( posted at 11:34AM Tue, 09 October 2012

Thank you for your suggestion. We do not have a stand alone animation contest planned in the near future but it could happen :)

kerrieanne ( posted at 10:57AM Fri, 12 October 2012

Can you post a link to your entry on facebook or twitter?

KristiS ( posted at 4:15PM Fri, 12 October 2012

The image cannot be posted anywhere until the winners are chosen and announced.

Jean-Luc_Ajrarn ( posted at 2:26PM Sun, 14 October 2012

Can vendors participate, too?

KristiS ( posted at 4:01PM Sun, 14 October 2012

Of course they can :)

So excited to participate this year in the contest. Wonderful theme to run all over with. Question - is there a size limit to the image submission? Dimension Limits or size limits?
