In past years with the membership voting to pick winners, it seemed that adhering to the theme had little visible role in the outcome. Some of the best horror is subtle but nothing at all subtle has a chance of winning. Without some better way to handle this I would hesitate to take the time to enter.

I agree with mazzam. I used to like when the contest would come around every Halloween. I didn't even bother last year since probably 90% of the entries really had nothing to do with the contest theme. Renderosity should really push this in the guidelines or change the voting process to a closed panel to address this problem. A lot of people work hard to come up with an image that sticks to the theme, only to be beaten out by another entry that may be rendered better or has more marketplace content crammed into it. Just my 2 cents.

I have always enjoyed the Halloween contest here at the 'big R'. I agree with mazzam about adhering to the theme. Still I enjoy seeeing all the interesting and creative entries. Would like to see a change in the voting procedure - maybe a combination of a 'popular' vote by the community and a 'best entry' vote by a panel of the sponsors?

The theme description is to inspire ideas and we want to leave it up to the artist what THEIR interpretation of the theme is and that can widely vary from artist to artist. In looking at least year and the year before I can definitely see how all the winners can fit the past themes with varying interpretations. We let the membership vote because for years we didn't and this got tons of upset from members/entrants being more interested in the community voting...

Please see the article as you submit by clicking the category you are wanting to enter in below where it reads, "This year we will be accepting entries into five (5) categories. Please click the appropriate category below to enter your submission."

I see the people have brought up the voting... is there anyway you can make a chart appear after the vote on who is winning like you do for artist of the month??? and when the contest is over, can you display the vote count per art piece? I think we are all interested in what the community finds as the Best... and I'm sure that most people here just want to know if they got any votes - I for one just want to know how close I've come to winning - I hope some way you can show us a vote count, I've been asking for it for years.... I'm just trying to make this contest be all it can be, I look forward to this contest every year - IT'S TRADITION! Speaking of Tradition and Contests, when I got here Renderosity use to have a contest for the Renderosity avatar on the front page... every two years they'd do this... that Tradition stopped.... I would love to see it come back in november so a NEW RENDEROSITY ART LOGO can be put in place JANUARY 1ST - Let's start the new year off with a new look... what do you think?
