Description

I've created four iconic paired poses for humans and snakes to help support to upcoming snake sets. The poses will support G8, G9, Dawn1-2/Dusk in DS and Dawn1-2/Dusk and La Femme/L'Homme in Poser. This one is the Rattlesnake dance. Yes, they do hold one of the snakes by its neck in the dancers mouth. I added my under-used Roadrunner to the scene-- he's holding a lizard in his mouth. Males do this behavior to impress other roadrunners that they are good hunters. I can remember watching a roadrunner for a good half hour at the Saguaro NP visitor's center strutting back and forth, trying to impress his reflection. While the snake dance is performed by a number of native American tribes... the Hopi dance is the famous one. Unfortunately there isn't anything close to Hopi clothing in the DS/Poser 3d model world, so I had to resort to using something much more generic in style. The Hopi sacred ceremony of the Snake Dance is a prayer for rain, the snakes being used as messengers to the gods having power over the rain clouds. It continues for nine days. The public performance (in which live snakes are handled) occurs on the ninth or last day. This ceremony takes place about the middle of August. This ceremony became too popular with tourists; even President Theodore Roosevelt insisted on seeing it. The Hopi tribe finally closed it to non-native Americans in the 1950s.

I'm kind of getting into this, research-wise anyway. I have a friend who did the Sundance. There are some baptists who handle snakes as a religious rite, though for somewhat different reasons. Cool render though, and yeah, you're right - there isn't a lot of variety with natives stuff poser- or daz-wise. Mostly plains-native tribes, a bit of eastern natives to satisfy those french-and-indian-wars renderers who also buy the napoleonic or colonial stuff.
