Description
Somewhere, there was a mountain. Hidden inside was some alien technology so advanced it would not look to the human eye like technology, but like strange life forms. The bio-machines built people, human yet also more than human. This one is shown nearly ready to emerge; soon she would move from her coma into her first sleep, and not long after that the factory would wake her and release her. Once they were ready the people made in the secret factory would emerge from their caves and change the world...
Made in Blender, where nowadays making images like this is relatively easy. I did get a bad case of obsessive compulsive tweak disorder with this, which delayed the production of the final version, but it was a fun project. Last year in late February I got myself a twelve core Mac Pro, and since then most images I have rendered have taken less than a minute, with a few stretching out to ten or occasionally fifteen minutes. However I knew eventually I would make something that took more than a few minutes to render and this was it. All those translucent and transparent surfaces made for a lot of reflection and transmission rays for Cycles to trace, so it took 53 minutes, 26.85 seconds to render this at UHD 3840x2160. I also rendered a true 8k version (8192x4608) which took a little over 2 hours 50 minutes. That rendered while I was sleeping as I used the old method of setting it rendering when I went to bed. I rarely need to do that with this machine whereas it was a common need on my old Mac.
Over six million polygons but in the viewport the scene can spin like a top, smooth as silk.
Upgrades are a lot of fun...

I can only imagine upgrades at this point. I'm still clunking with an outdated machine.
This is an incredible piece of art you've produced. I'd say you have used you upgrades extremely well :)

Save if you can! I wish everybody who wants one could have at least a decent computer, but sometimes we wait. It took me years to raise the money and I am really enjoying it. I hope you get the same one day, and thank you for your comment.

Holy **!! This is seriously jaw-dropping! Wow! I know Blender can do some fantastic stuff, but this blows my mind! I'm hoping once we get everything settled here, I can start spending some quality time with it.

Thank you! It was fun doing this one, and I hope to continue making better and better stuff as I learn more about Blender. As for the software, it can do almost anything that the big name software can do, including Hollywood quality effects and scenes. And if you're not into photorealism a Pixar animator went on record a couple of years ago as saying that "Blender can do everything we do at Pixar". I believe him. Blender has been improved quite a bit since then...

So is the factory the secret ... or are the people it makes the secret ...or both?
Very cool either way round ... but kind of creepy. It makes you (or at least me) kind of wonder about the ability of the secret people to interact with more traditionally birthed individuals. I mean what kind of social skills do you emerge with when you are kicked out into the world nude, bald, fully grown and your parents were (apparently) lighted tentacles and nasty looking glowing alien fungus? Curious role models at best ... unless you are a anime character of course ;^)

That's a well thought out comment, but they won't have a problem as the machines who designed these people have been keeping humanity under observation for some time. Their creations will be born knowing all they need to know to work with ordinary people. They can also keep their origins a secret to avoid the worst paranoid reactions some people in our societies tend to have to the very idea of aliens or alien interference. Personally I think we could benefit from some intelligent interference...
