Description

I started assembling this new summer/beach scene in my old computer, but when I tried to load props, the scene (and my trusty dusty Poser 7) crashed. I found myself having to acquire a new computer. I figured, no way would Windows 11 run Poser 7 (Windows 10 wasn't supposed to be compatible with it, either, but I ran it for six years!). So, here I am, running Windows 11 and Poser 11! :astonished: It took some research and pleading for advice, but I am proud (?) to present my first image using these new platforms together. Really not happy with the way the Thunderbird turned out, and a few of the guys' eyes look insanely white, gonna have to figure out what's wrong there, but ... here we go!

Thank you! 😉 I just discovered that my bump maps (veins) aren't showing up, so I gotta figure out what's wrong with them, too! "The struggle is real."

The guy showing off his biceps clearly didn't let his "beach body" go slack over the winter!! Fun scene!

Their eyes look like the sclera materials are connected to the ambient channel (which they should never be, unless you intend for the material to be self-illuminating). I think some folks did that in the past as a way to brighten the eye whites, but as Firefly got better, "tricks" like that didn't work as well. It looks like their teeth might have ambient as well. Another thing that can cause that kind of brightness is if the materials are set to be reflective, which is another trick some may have used to brighten the eyes or teeth but isn't "correct". You can fix those things in the advanced material room by making the ambient and reflective chips black.. Or just run the figure's materials through EZSkin and let it fix all the material zones! It makes nearly every skin look better, even if you don't plan to render with SSS enabled!

I'm proud of you my Padawan! You have greatly surpassed the requirements in this first test! A most fantastic and fascinating image! Now many challenges lie ahead of you but I see by this example that you are very much up to the tasks at hand. Congratulations and many fine kudos from me to you on your first posted image from these platforms!

Now onto the fix for the Thunderbird. The big thing here, I think, is turning the value for reflection down. You do this in the material room. It defaults to a value of 1.0. I usually set it to 0.5 or even less if it is still too bright. Also, you can darken the Specular_Color and Reflection_Colors a little which will help as well. Also, lowering the value for the Specular_valu (it also defaults to 1, I'd crank it down to 0.8 or less and see how it looks in a small render) and Highlight_Size value. I keep that one at 0.035 or even less depending on how it looks in a render. These are a couple suggestions. Another thing you can play with are the colors for the above values. You'd be surprised at difference putting some color into those values makes on car renders! But most of all, have fun playing with them and seeing how your value/color changes turn out, (using a small window to render before you make your full size image) Hope this gives you some ideas! And above all, my Padawan, keep having fun and keep those images coming! Hope you are having a great day!
