For uninterupted text and a larger image go Here For a few moments, Brigit was caught up in nostalgia. She suddenly felt awkward like a novice again. As she approached Shalivar and Ethros they both smiled warmly and held their arms out. Not knowing what to do she fell back into her old ways and awkwardly bowed before them. Shalivar laughed and Ethros held forth is hands in a sign of greeting with an equal, seeming to hold back a laugh. 'Oh Brigit!' Shalivar exclaimed. 'You do not need to bow before us. You are of a different and very high order now.' 'You know?' Brigit replied Ethros continued. 'Yes. In fact Ertha came to us nearly a year ago inquiring about you. We told her what we knew and asked that if you were found that she at least let us know you were doing alright.' Brigit was momentarily speechless. Not that she talked too much, but knowing that Ertha had been scouting her out so long ago threw her off . Shalivar added. 'When Ertha had found you about eight months ago, she sent us a message that you were fine and might be back in the near future to help the Order once again. And now here you are.' Brigit looked back and forth once at her former mentors and took in their looks. Ethros was the forest warden of the region and a handsome man of pale skin and raven colored hair with deep green eyes. He was wearing the green robes of his station and little else. Most elves wore little and sometimes no clothing at all. They were not affected by the natural elements as severely as most other humanoids. Severe and extremes of cold or hot effect them about as much as anyone else, but an elf can go out on a typical winter day and not need much more than what Ethros was wearing right now. Shalivar was red haired like Brigit. Red was so rare that those born with it were often expected to rise to some great station or responsibility in life. She was very beautiful, darker skinned and vibrant eyes that seemed to be lit from the inside. She was well known for her disdain of clothing and has shown up at mixed humanoid meetings with only her staff in hand. Shalivar was the head of the Order of the Phoenix for nearly two hundred years now, some hundred and fifty years longer than Brigit was old. Shalivar caught Brigit's expression. 'So, I guess you're just finding out that you've been being scouted for some time now.' She smiled as she spoke. Brigit made a face scrunching her face and lips in distaste. 'Ertha is very selective of what she wants us to know. It seems you may know more of what's in store for me than I.' Both Shalivar and Ethros chuckled, but turned serious. Ethros went on, 'Honestly Brigit, it is wonderful to see you again. We wish you'd never left. And now you are back under circumstances that will get worse before they get better. We do in fact have a mission that is to be undertaken and you are going to be the leader.' Brigit didn't flinch. She had been a leader early in her training at the Order. Once she'd learned to control her temper better at least. She felt she was destined to take Shalivar's place, but when her last mission lost so many people, she felt devastated and was unwilling to take on such responsibility any more. After twenty years she didn't feel much better about it, but she would hear them out. Shalivar continued. 'Let us walk and we will explain along the way.' They made their way across the bridge and headed up the dirt road to the main plaza. Continued below.

Shalivar continued. 'Let us walk and we will explain along the way.' They made their way across the bridge and headed up the dirt road to the main plaza. 'You may have heard that Rilaun has fallen and Roxanne is still missing and now presumed dead. We've gotten word that there were survivors and they are currently in a fortified camp in the highlands. Their numbers are few, but luckily the enemy was diminished to such a point that their remnants are not much more than a ragtag bunch of bandits. We don't know their true strength and we need to reinforce those who are left of Rilaun.' Ethros added in. 'There is more than that, however. It has come to Levi's attention that the Lost Tribe may in fact live in the highlands and possibly in the mountains themselves. If this is true and they are willing to help, then they could guard the northern passes and keep out Jael's spies and assassins.' 'That's a lot of ifs.' Said Brigit. She almost flinched at the mention of Levi's name. They had not parted on good terms. And for good reason. It had hurt Brigit even more that she had lied to Levi. Levi knew she was lying about something, but did not know the whole truth. Brigit was hoping to avoid Levi altogether and thus hoped that this mission would start sooner than later. 'We trust Levi and she contacted a phoenix and was able to confirm a few things.' Ethros said. 'She always had a special way with those spirits.' Acknowledged Brigit. 'I can only imagine what she had to do in return.' 'We don't ask.' Said Shalivar. 'There is one catch.' Added Ethros. An eyebrow went up on Brigit's face. 'Levi is going with you.' Brigit let out an exasperated breath and stomped her foot. A habit she somehow picked up from her time spent with Winslet. 'I really think she is better off here doing her intelligence gathering, I can handle the field work.' Shalivar stopped walking and turned to Brigit. 'There is no debate in this. Levi has the most knowledge of the Lost Tribe and of Rilaun for that matter. Furthermore, she needs to be out in the field more and gaining more experience. Since you left twenty years ago, she has let more and more go out in her stead and that will not do.' Brigit read between the lines and replied. 'You want Levi as your replacement.' It was a statement and not a question. 'Yes. She has all the talents and intelligence, but she needs to understand what it is like in uncertain situations and she needs to learn to come to terms better with her personal feelings.' Shalivar's look was like that of a mother speaking of her only daughter. 'I thought it might have been you, Brigit, but eventually I saw that you were destined for other things. That is why Ethros and I did not stand in your way after the last mission.' She turned and continued walking and took Ethros' arm that he offered to her. They continued on in silence to the Great Plaza.

Elves are less affected by the elements... good excuse to have nekkid tree-huggers in your images! LOL! Though I see you avoided that here. I know they're elves and such, but in Japanese culture when a woman bows it is done differently than a man. In the image Brigit is bowing in the male fashion - hands by the side. The female typically bows with the hands clasped together at the front with the arms straight. Just thought you might find that interesting :) But, as I said, they're elves in a fantasy world so anything goes! Like how they just cut to the chase. Yeah, welcome back... here's you're next job! I suspect there will be some tension on the forthcoming mission, given the history between Brigi and Levi... Great stuff, man!

Wow, what a beautiful intriguing chapter you have gifted us. I can well imagine Brigit's feelings at the end of this. To know that a position she once coveted will be given to another, and she must now lead that other on a mission. Wow, what an emotional and gut wrenching twist that would be, especially given that you really do not know what higher order is really in store for you. That is a wicked bit of writing. The image is itself fantastic with the characters beautifully portrayed.
