Description

This is a red/brown baby squirrel that our children found lying in the garden, freezing (and dying). We could not determine where it came from, and had to take it in house and later deliver it to a wild reserve specialized in squirrels. Our children named him "Little red". Take care

traceyjane: Thank you very much. Yes I also wish the best for him. mistressotdark: Me too, thanks. -seek-: Thank you - he looks better than he was I believe. You are welcome. Richardphotos: Thank you very much, I am glad you think so. bmac62: Thank you. I think you are right, they want a picture of them with him on their wall to remember him. Even for such a short time we had him, he made a tremedious impression. paul leatham: Thank you very much. Yes you are right, he really just fell asleep in the hand (here it is my wife holding him). Kitt_24: Thanks, yes we simply had to help the little fellow, he was in poor shape .. lwperkins: Thanks for your comment. Yes I think he was happy with a warm hand. I wish we have had some sort of heating lamp for him. blbarrett: Yes, thank you very much. psyoshida: Thanks, yes I believe it was the best thing to bring him there. They are specialized in squirrels and birds and knows what is best to do.

What an image! I have a childhood memory of saving a gray squirrel found in my childhood back yard. I didn't name him, but tended him for a while before turning him over (grudgingly) to a veterinarian/rehabilitation clinic for non-cats and non-dogs. They invited me to his release into the wild once he was old enough to fend for himself. I'm sure Little Red will be with your kids for life, in all of the best ways, and as for this image, it's quite superb. Red Squirrels aren't so common in Chicago, though we have had a few black ones with rather extravagant ear-tufts! Great work here, on multiple levels.

Chipka: Thank you very much. Wow.. you had a similar experience in your childhood? Sound very similar to our story here. I do not think we will be invited to his release, when we went there they wrapped him in a blanked quickly said goodbye and ran inside. I am sure they do the best for him and you are right it will stay our minds and hearts for a long time .. amazing what emotions such a little creature can awake. Interesting with the different sort of squirrels .. we mostly see the brown/red european squirrel (like "Little red" here) in our part of the world (Denmark).

Poor little squirrel. :( Glade to hear you found it and took it some place where they can take care of it. :) Excellent capture by the way!

You did the right thing. I have raised them from this point but it is really up to the specialist to do. Knowing the way and time to feed and having the right milks is so very important. It will do well with fluids... it is a bit dehydrated but once they either get it on a bottle or tube it, it will grow and strengthen quickly. Stunning shot.

clbsmiley: Thank you, I am glad you think so. BenBischop: Yes isnt he. Thanks. kbrog: Thank you very much. As I recall this is actually captured with my macrolense (with flash on a camera mounted ring), and one handheld flash to the left. Yes, I am sure that where we brought him they know what is best to do. MrsLubner: Thank you so very much for your comment. Ah, so you actually raised one or more squirrels. I am glad we did the right thing by taking him to the specialists, they actually told us that when they are this little they need to be padded/stroked on their little stomac to urinate otherwise they can not, and they need warmth, and as you say special nutrition etc. davidoblad: Thank you very much for your thougths Dave. I belive in helping and I hope and belive that most other people would do the same - though I also know of some who really would not care, but hasnt it always been so :) I am glad to be able to share this little story, and that how such a little creature could spread some joy here, just by being .. blinkings: He he .. then you should try holding him, what a wonderful feeling, so soft, so cute, so little and so fragile it seems. whaleman: Thank you very much, I am glad you think so. jmb007: merci beaucoup!
