Description

Not an insect, but I didn't know what Genre to put her under!! This is my daughter's pet Chilean Rose Tarantula. We named her Socks because she's got little black feet :-) She's still a baby actually, and will get a lot bigger than this eventually - I'll definitely post a pic of her at full size once she gets there!!

Yikes... wouldn't a puppy or kitten make a better pet for a little girl??? LOL... Good capture. :)

Wonderful!! I would love to keep tarantulas, but the hair when thrown gives me itchy eyes!

LOL!! My daughter has gone through the cuddly kitty stage, now at 14 she's "venturing out" - hehehe!! She wanted a snake, but I draw the line there. I like snakes, but they don't smell too good! haha Socks is really sweet, despite the fact that she's a hairy spider. She's very laid-back :-)

How encouraging to know she is venturing into the exciting "unpopular" attitude. I am so glad she is not afraid, it will serve her well during her lifetime. I would love to see it's progress.

Awesome shot... but aren't you afraid that she might bite your daughter?

Well, the Chilean Rose has a bite, but it's not too nasty, and of all the tarantulas, they're the most laid back when handled, so the chances of being bitten are really small. When Feylin bought Socks, she knew she might get bitten and has accepted that. Brave girl! :-)

What a nice baby you've got here! I didn't know they were selling them so small, I thought you could only buy adult spiders... (stupid idea, I guess...) It will be nice to see more photos of her as she grows. Nice picture and nice pet.
