Related thread: Changing Background Color in Poser 5- A way found
Someone over at RunTime DNA was asking how to shut off the gradient workspace background in Poser 5, as it's making the creation of an instructional video somewhat difficult.
Since so many of you like to customize your Poser workspace, I thought I'd post the answer here as well.
I don't recommend this for the faint-hearted, because you're hacking into Poser 5 itself, which already has its own problems, plus your changes might cause conflicts with future updates. Also, this hack might have consequences of which I am not aware. Remember, you're doing this at your own risk ....
Make a backup copy of the posershell.xml file in Poser 5's Runtime/UI folder, then open the file in a text editor. Near the beginning of the file, just past the WidgetList, is a section labeled:
WidgetName="eGradientBackground"
In that section, you'll find a parameter called widgetProcID, which should have a value of "5". Change the value to "7".
Save the modified posershell.xml, and launch Poser 5. You should now have a solid workspace background. No gradient, no texture. To change colours, use the hack posted in the link above.
If you mess up the editing or new problems occur, restore the unaltered posershell.xml (you did make a backup, right?) and things should go back to normal. Good luck. If your machine blows up, I'll be hiding somewhere under a large rock.
