Subject: Terrain editor type that imports to Poser??

Patricia ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 12:44 PM · edited Mon, 16 June 2025 at 10:25 PM

I have Bryce 3 and I've learned to model in it pretty well, but can't import the finished model out of Bryce....and I'd just love to get stuff into Poser 4. When I do the 'control-D' trick in the smoothing window, nothing happens? Maybe too early a version of Bryce? What I'd really like is a third-party program that uses greyscale modeling. Anyone know of one???

Vue Desprit will export terrain objects as dxf, poser will import dxf.

Does Vue have the ability to model with symetrical lattices like Bryce does? I can make an amazing number of objects in Bryce that are fully round and quite detailed. I use 2D images like wood- or metalworkers' detailed drawings or Victorian clip art.

I think that terrain export began with Bryce 4. In case I'm wrong look under the File menu and see if it has an Export Object item. This is what is used for terrain export. Bryce4/5 exports to 15 3D formats including UVMapped .OBJ's with fully rendered image textures which are Poser friendly. And yes Bryce4/5 does export symlats. Besides Vue, the MojoWorld Generator also supports Gray Scale displacement and export to common 3D formats. HTH-Dan

vue only exports terrain objects, and modelling in the terrain editor is a pain for anything but terrains. it models object with primitives and bollean ops nicely, just won't export them. check the vue forum, a couple of threads there about terrain modeling.

Thank you all for your thoughts....Looks like I may have to spring for a newer Bryce...................sigh.

I haven't used this one myself, so I don't know how well it'll work with Poser:

Landscape Visualization by Geomantics

One of the downloadable plugins (VRML and TIN Export) adds .obj export support.
