Subject: How do I make a posable skirt?

I've made a mesh for a tunic, which basically hangs down to just above the knees like a skirt. My question is: what is the best way to make the sucker posable? Am I going to have to make a million morphs, or is there some trick I can use to make the thing pose nicely without the stiff bit it the middle that I would be stuck with if I left a hip group in the middle. I know that Anton Kisiel (sp?) has a couple of long skirts that are supposed to be able to do this for sale at DAZ in the Egypt stuff, but I don't want to get them just to figure out how it was done. Does anyone here know the secret?

Well, above the knees conforms, generally, nicely. What is driving me crazy is trying to do long formal dresses that conform without exploding somehow at the knee when vicki does gymnastics in it. however, if you are brighter than i am...go to www.poserpros.com. jim burton goes to some lengths in explaining the whole concept. me, i guess my vicki's will just have to be more ladylike.

Yes I know what you mean about the stiff hip. This dress I created it with a hip and some horizontal segments augmented with morphs. If you would like it to see what I did just drop me a line and I'll be happy to get it to you.

hmmm...a lot of work on the prop phil, looks great. ~g~ might be easier to cause the hips to sway than alter the prop...side to side and up and down major motion paterns, a bit of forward back as well. I'll work on setting up the screenshot series to show settings for these movements of the hip. if it's to much I'll just make the pose targets for walking pose on it....actually might be easier that way. or both. the walk designer doesn't emulate real motion, which causes the stiffness in the hip section.

Phil, is the info on your CD? I think OneShot or Spirko or one of the corel mIRC visitors was talking about getting your CD last night. Has me intrigued as well.

well, I figured out why the hip section of clothing is so stiff, someone, in thier infinite insnity, made the hip movement settings only apply to whole model. the cr2 would need to be completely rebuilt to allow for natural hip movement. like an extra set of transition dials that affect only the hip positioning. something like the camera's pitch, yaw and roll settings added to the hip to allow posing the hip as well. the new models I'm working on will have that built in, so it won't be hard to c&p the settings into the other models cr2's. sorry, I have a thing about making a model that has only humanly possible motions, but all humanly possible motions. new model will be able to wear vicky's clthes, the male model mikes. and at the twist of a dial, posettes and the dorks. ~g~

Well, I've seperated my tunic out so that the whole skirt section is named hip. The left and right thigh sections are in the CR2 as "phantom" or "ghost" parts and cause the skirt to deform when the legs move. Unfortunately, once the movement goes beyond a certain point the legs start to poke through, so it looks like I'm going to have to use the magnets to spin off a few morph targets -- and then try to remember how to do the joint controled morphing bit. . . PhilC: that looks great! I think I'm on the right track now, but if I come up against the wall again you may hear from me. . . Thanks
