Subject: Please help: question regarding body color

MegaJar ( ) posted Fri, 26 April 2002 at 12:17 AM ยท edited Thu, 17 April 2025 at 5:29 AM

Is there a way to individually color different parts of the body? In other words, to make the hands a different color than the arms, make one leg a different color than the other leg, etc? The only material I saw in there was "SkinBody", which changed the color for the entire figure at once. How can I get around this? I THOUGHT I had found a workaround: I selected the body part in question, exported it as a Wavefront OBJ, imported it right back in, positioned it correctly, highlighted the original, and hit "Replace body part with prop", thus replacing the original with the imported copy. So now I should have an identical copy of the original, but it's a separate object, so it can have its own material, right? Wrong! As soon as I hit "Replace body part with prop", the formerly identical copy warped out of control, and suddenly looked less like an arm than like a wrung-out sponge! What the **** did I do wrong? And is there a simpler way of achieving the effect I want?

I think what you want can be done with the grouping tool. I haven't used it too much but I believe that you can select part of an element and assign it to a new or existing material. Chris Cox

You can use the grouping tool. I'm not that great at it but if you have the user guide it's on page 246-surface materials. Tashar 59

Do you really require different material colours for each body part, or would a multicoloured texture map serve your needs?

(My apologies to Staale Loseth for the horrible butchery of his texture. Arnold isn't happy about it, either.)

Ah, thanx! That should do it! :-)

Little_Dragon, I'm sure glad that he is wearing shorts! If someone like that walked towards me, I'd suspect that he was hiding the off-color bits. ::grin, duck, and run:: Carolly

nasty grin I suppose he'll be showing the "off-color bits" in Terminator 3.

Hey! Where'dya get the ARNOLD figure? I've a friend that would go absolutely bonkers over him! Is it a completely new character, a morph, or some combination of both? I'd gladly purchase the character if it is a "for sale" item.

He's the P4 Male with Male Hair 3, a couple of custom-made morph targets for each, and one of Staale Loseth's textures (P4NudeMan1.jpg). If you wish, I'll email you the morphs; the zip file is only 43KB.

a simple way, remove the textures and go through the channels in render materials to assign each part a different colour. it takes a bit of time, but it works. ~l~
