After four attempts I still can't get the Animation Tutorial in the manual to give me the output I'm supposed to get. Am I dense, or is this tutorial really bad? If the former, does anyone have any tips for figuring out what I'm doing wrong, and if the latter, are there any good basic tutorials for animation? So far my animation experience is with animated GIFs only...

There's a small tutorial here: http://www.lecblue.com/ I haven't tried the tutorial in the manual. Isn't that the one Grey wrote? -JH.

The one in the manual is the clown oggling the trapeze artist... I don't know who did it.

Well, I already took this to the PoseAmation forum on the Other Poser Site, and this IS the one Grey did. Really, what I'm trying to do is learn the basics of animation so I won't have to ask for help on future projects... I haven't been able to get the last step of the clown walk (the Clown Finish pose) to show up right in the window, unless I have him remain IN that pose for the entire walk... And the manual seems to be missing part of the section on facial animation; I think they botched the editing of the tutorial. Either that or I'm just really stupid when it comes to this sort of thing... The final goal of this is to have two figures who start out facing front (probably only from the waist up) turn towards each other and clasp hands, as if making a deal...

I've heard other people say they couldn't get the tutorial to work either. I think it's a problem with the walk designer. I'll keep an eye out for better ones. -JH.

Have a look at this thread from the animation forum. Dave_L did a good job explaining some of the concepts: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12351&Form.ShowMessage=13444 -JH.

The problem I had was actually with the order of action that need to be done BEFORE the walk designer is opened. Grey pointed me in the right direction, and I got it to work. After seven tries... :-)
