Subject: Dumb question about moving MAT files to camera folder

queri ( ) posted Wed, 20 March 2002 at 12:04 AM · edited Wed, 25 June 2025 at 9:08 AM

I'm going to have to do it as I've already got some on the bottom of the list that won't register. Here's the dumb part. How do I change the .tag? I'm running ME and it doesn't even Show the file tag most of the time, so when I go to change it, I'm not sure I'm doing anything. Can this be done in P3DO? I could, of course, stop buying stuff, but I don't think that's gonna happen. I already NEEED 3 more hair styles. And to think I got into Poser to break an Ebay addiction.

Hi Queri, I'm sorry I don't understand your question. What do you mean with tag ? I don't think what you ask can be done in P3dO for P3dO doesn't do any internal write except for Poser pictures. This will change with next release where I intend to add the ability to modify a destination path. So please can you explain me exactly what you need/want and I'll study it. At the moment you've rather got to see toward the MAT files editors or CR2Edit for this. Yarp

Somewhere in a thread in the dark history of this forum someone mentioned an easy way to deal with the super abundance of MAT files was to relabel them as camera files and stow them in the Camera folder. In other words, .cm2 instead of .pz2. Seems to me that would make them not work but I really don't know enough about computers to make a judgement. I was just trying to figure out a way to do it.

The slow and painful way is to open each one in a text editor like EditPad Lite and resave them as "File.cm2" with File being your actual file name. I save about half of my MAT files in the Face library.

Try Lupas Rename. (see link)

Ok, ok. I recall this and I promised a batch renamer to do this in a second. The renamer will be available at Seno next saturday. It should have been available for long but I lost the whole february month improving the P3dO thumb view and seeking for a bug in Rsr2Png (I still don't know if it is fixed as I have no feedback). So I promise batch renamer Saturday. If you can't stand doing it there was a freeware batch renamer discussed in a previous thread by Arcady: http://www.1-4a.com/rename/ It does more than P3dO renamer will do - but P3dO has lots more to say ;)) Xena, there's an easier way with the already existing P3dO rename function: 1) Copy the files in the desired location. 2) Select the file you wish to rename, click on rename 3) P3dO will prompt for each file to rename. Say you will gain 90% in time. The batch renamer will gain another 9% ;))

I rename groups of files up to several hundred at a time with a Multiple File Renamer utility called (oddly enough) MultiRename. It's a freebie I got from a Zif-Davis computer mag cover disk, but I believe it's still available from the online ZDNet software library. I've got 2 other similar utilities, but I'm most comfortable with that one (had it the longest:-)). I moved most of my MAT folders over to the Camera Library months ago, no problems from it. I did rename the extentions, though. 240 folders was too many in my Pose Library. Hadn't tried them in the Face Library, but I have the most room under Hands - Hmmm.... Something to try....

to get your file extensions (the tags i believe you are talking of) in your explorer, go to VIEW:OPTIONS Down under Hidden files list are several check boxes, one of which is something like ... Hide Dos Extensions. Uncheck that box and you should be able to see your files extensions or tags.

OK, but does simply renaming them work? Or does one actually have to resave them in the new name?

leather-guy ( ) posted Wed, 20 March 2002 at 4:43 AM

Just a rename is all that's needed. Poser doesn't save or look for the file extention inside the files.

Thanks for that Yarp :) Leather-guy, the Hands folder will work. It just always asks you for left or right hand - which drives me up the wall s
