Marylin Monroe where are you now? Are you happy and care free being taken from your lost world of turmoii? Sad that she is no longer living with us today but her memory lives on. Do you remember that film she was in? The gentle breeze blowing up from the New York underground tram line. Her dress lifted making her a celluloid goddess indelably inprinted in our memories as we saw her on the large cinema screen. this is a pic I spent the whole of last weekend on using magnets to morph the Poser Thin Strap Halter Dress. Self made hat, posing the character and most of all lighting. Lighting took the longest time. I was almost obsessed in trying to understand the use of lighting in Poser. The spotlight shining at the feet. Front and side light. Which created a dark area on the face. So I had to add anotherr spotlight just to highlight the face. It's not perfection as all artist are critical of their work. I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I had creating it. I would appreciate your comments on how I could improve the picture. 3dfilmdag

The movie was The Seven Year Itch with (I think) Tom Eyen, and the subway scene has to be one of the most famous of her entire career -- which is sorta sad because she was actually a good actress who got pigeon-holed early on in these "dumb blonde" roles. Nice job with magnets in getting the skirt to rise up. I think I would lose the stockings, but thats just personal preference more than anything else, I suppose.

I'd lose the stockings, too, or make them a bit less obvious. The dress should be whiter and pleated in the skirt, if memory serves. She is supposed to be standing on a grating (whence comes the updraft). I used to work for IKG (the company which made that particular grating), so her picture was everywhere in the office. Carolly

Unfortunately she doesn't look like Marilyn. This figure is not blond, and maybe her hair is too long. I don't think she wore a hat in the picture. I don't recall seeing her panties either. This was a day when you left a lot to the imagination. Some would argue that concept made things even more sexy. Ron

And she wouldnt be wearing knickers like that any way would she Ron ??

Jack and Bobby would also tell you that she was'nt a treal blonde

When the subway went by the pressure from the air caused her skirt to lift. She used her hands to keep it from raising high enough to see that she was not wearing panties, she never wore them. Also she would not have had that horrified look on her face. This movie caused her divorce, and in particular this scene, as her husband was in the crowd and got ticked about the remarks he heard. One of my favorite Marilyn Monroe movies. My favorite would have to be The Misfits. Marque

Actually, small piece of Hollywood trivia. When they shot this scene, they had to use two stagehands operating a fan from under the sidewalk through the grate. There was a huge auction to see who was gonna get those spots...

Marque posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 11:07 AM

Yup, I read that too. lol Also she had serious problems by dyeing all of her hair, no, she wasn't a real blonde. If you look at any of her old shots before she became Marilyn you will see that her hair was light brown. Still a legend though. Marque

Don't we have two or three "Marilyn" Posette's floating around the Poser Community sites? I know I have the zips somewhere in my Poser CD collection, I don't recall who the artists were offhand. She's not an easy subject for some reason. Tho I guess no one is easily captured. A lot of work goes into a portrait. So I would suggest to you Dag, that you try to get several pictures of MM off the web, or wherever, and use them as reference to help get the likeness. A good place to get them is at Google's image search at Google.com, hope this helps. In the movie scene, she was enjoying the coolness of the air on a warm summer night. It was a deliberate act not an accident.

There is a Vicky Marylin by Darth Logice that was in the Free Stuff.

then again, Dag might not have been going for Marilyn at all, just an experiment to see if he could get the skirt to move the same way as in the scene in 7YI. And BTW: Marque -- in the scene she is indeed wearing underpants. Theyre visible at certain moments.

Hi all I am amazed at the response this message has recieved. I didn't created this pic to copy Marylin Monroe's famous film. I merely commented on her fame. The pic was an experiment in creating 40's to 50's style Pinup Girl pics. And yes I know the panties of today were not worn in that time. So VirtualSites you were correct as to why I created and posted this picture. I must say though it was very interesting to read everyone's comments. There is a well know pinup artist (I don't know his name) who did pics of women in embarressing moments where their dresses would blow up. Not literally (BANG!!!) I was just trying to capture this style of picture. I would post a picture to show as a reference but I'm worried about copyright legalities. It takes a long time to learn the necesary skills in using Poser so to be motivated in sticking at it you need a subject matter that captures your attention. And I must say my attention was captured for a whole weekend. So besides the fact that the picture is not a replication of Marylin Monroe, what are your views on the technical aspects of the picture? 3dfilmdag

There is a well know pinup artist (I don't know his name) who did pics of women in embarressing moments where their dresses would blow up Oh my god, I know who you mean... LOL. Talk about obsessive: this guy really took the proverbial cake -- every single image (and he did hundreds) were all variations on that one theme. You look at enough of them and you really have to wonder: did he ever get bored with it? Did he ever get up and say to himself, "Damn! I have to draw yet another broad with her skirt flying up!"? Technically, it looks pretty good. Whats the line across the back of the skirt? It looks like a split vertice, but its travelling in an odd angle.

ronknights posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 5:59 AM

3dfilmdag, you did a fine image. However you might want to reread your original post. It was a homage to Marilyn. Then you talked about spending the entire weekend on this picture. One idea led to another, and so many people picked up the same idea. It was a tribute to, and a picture of Marilyn. Ron

Hi Folks! FYI: Agnes has a Poseable/Morphable Pleated Skirt prop that I think can achieve the same "airblown" effect without magnets. It's no longer available in FreeStuff, but you can still download it from her web site. A keyword search through the Members listing should turn up her online address. Some more trivia tidbits about that famous scene: - On the first take Marilyn was indeed not wearing panties. It was so disruptive to the film crew and the spectator audience that the director asked her to put on a pair for the other takes. - The lucky so-and-so who operated the fan under the grating (for all takes, including the first one) is said to have bragged afterward, "I have seen the face of God!!" - Donna Summer does a convincing take-off on that image on the back of one of her album covers from the 70s. Nice work, 3d!! Peter (Dr Zik)
