Subject: Trying to rescale hair

In the hopes of getting long hair on Mike-- no, the Wonder wedge just ain't doing it. I'd like to put Kozaburo hair on him-- for that matter I'd like to put K's hair into my libraries correctly but that's another prob.

Is there any systematic way to scale fem hair up for Mike? Last time I ended up with Gypsy hair coming out of his nostrils. I really should have saved that render.

heyas; i just load the hair on him, then eyeball it on. after you do that, save it back to the library as mike-whatever hair. then use that from now on, and it will fit him.

You mean you don't use the x,y and z thingies? Cause, I must admit they are driving me crazy. It would help if I could find my manual.

I usually scale the hair up to about 105% for Mike. That usually works. I use Kozaburo hair on Mike and it works great. You might have to Y Trans it just a tad to get it to the right height, but I think what Bloodsong meant was to use the XYZ dials and just use your judgment to place it. You just have to sort of experiment with it. Melanie

That's what I wanted to know!!! Thank you. I was xyz trans without too much discretion and ended up with some rather odd pieces of hair. Y Trans! Yea! Yes, it usually comes in right about around his nose. I thank both of you very much. Generally, I prefer to eyeball everything myself but it's been awhile since I've tromped around in 3D and I wasn't all that conversant with it ten years ago.

This wouldn't apply to Kozaburo's hair (his are all one object) but some of the more complex hairs (like Hmann's) are made up of different parts. It may seem obvious, but when you try to move or rescale a hair for Mike, make sure it's the hair as a whole you've selected, not a part of it. I've made that mistake before with some hilarious results! But once you've got it right, resaving it to the library saves you all that work next time.

Doesn't sound obvious to me, I only learned last night-- this is my fifth day working Poser, after a hiatus of years "BV", Before Vicki-- that costumes and stuff HAD parts! I managed to conform/parent my Conner Hair to the neck of a jacket. Generally, though I try-- don't always succeed-- to be methodical and select hair from the menu not on the fly. Here's a very stupid question. What camera angles do you use to size it? I've used Right and Face, I guess I should also use the Top view, huh? My main problem is getting it high enough so his bald head doesn't come through and further onto the forehead so it isn't Orc back-curls. I'll reread the manual now that I've downloaded it in Acrobat, the other one goes walk-about.

If I remember right, I believe hmann's hair is a character figure, not a hair prop, so it has more than one part. Kozaburo's hair has multiple layers. When you select a character figure hair object, make sure you have "Body" selected. This selects the whole figure, not just a piece of it. And in parenting it, you need to use Set Figure Parent, to make it stay with the figure. Again, make sure you have the Body of the hair selected selected. I Hope this helps. Melanie
