I've been trying to install some daz content from the freebies, but I can't figure it out. I am a total noob when it comes to Daz. So far, all I've done is install stuff from the DIM and export it as objs for use in other software. Can someone walk me through installing other things from zip files. Please keep it basic because I don't know anything.

Depending on how the freebie zips are constructed, you may need to dig down subfolders to get to the relevant files. When I download DAZ-centric content, I open the zip file with a third-party compression app (my preference is WinRAR) and examine the folder hierarchy. Many vendors package their files within a root folder entitled 'Content' or 'My Library,' which is incorrect, IMHO. This is assuming that your root DAZ library folder is entitled as such. If I encounter such obstacles, I go down a folder or two in the hierarchy. I know that DIM uses 'My DAZ 3D Library' as its root folder, while DS generates 'My Library' as its core. As long as each root folder is linked to DS, it's a matter of preference where you install your content. Just note that DIM will discard the 'Content' folder and extract the folders within for installation; in many cases, freebie vendors emulate this hierarchy, which is unnecessary, unless the zip is packaged in such a way that it is compatible with DIM.

I would suggest that you open your DS root folder and examine the subfolders within; that will give you a picture of the folder hierarchy. If you see that same hierarchy in the zip file, then you can either drag & drop those files into your DS library root file or extract its content directly to the same core. However, if you find folders like I described above, then work down the subfolders until you see those similar to the DS library. Again, select those folders and extract. 

I find that most freebie vendors comply with the DS library subfolder hierarchy, and I have had very few problems with those installations. It's the compression packaging that throws me. In most cases, I rebuild the zip files to reflect how I install content, not how the vendors interpret it.
