Hi, I was meaning to ask how to do Gobo lighting in the Superfly incarnations of Poser?

Used to put gobo lighting to great effect in 3Delight era of Daz and for some reason I cannot find anything on Gobo lighting

in newer Poser. If it was a case of the light material settings, I do have gobo textures, like  the ones you might use in the old
Advanced Lighting sets from Daz.

Cheers

If you're using Superfly, only Poser 14 does gobo.

Hmmmmm ok.

Though disappointing.

Just keep in mind, there will be no further developments for Poser 13 going forward.

Pantherin75 posted Wed, 29 July 2026 at 10:21 AM

Oh I do keep that in mind.

Indeed, the cessation of development is cause for irritation if not anger.

Whilst I do understand the reasoning behind the change in poser cloth to a system, shoe-horned into the bullet physics system,
it is still no replacement. Especially as bullet physics is a pain to use.

Oh I have no doubt that Poser 14 comes with many needed solutions to issues, the pre-Superfly editions of poser did not have. Ergo, someone who was
used to being able to have access to gobo lighting in older versions of Poser, might well be unpleasantly surprised that something taken for granted is not possible.
Which then feels like returning functionality that should never have been taken away in the first place.

No I remain on the fence when it comes to Poser 14 and more than a little irritated how things have proceeded. Where before I did seriously plan on getting Poser 14, I have now decided to put it on a back-burner. I am not surprised that even long-standing Poser fans are now switching to DAZ after all because, the roll out of Poser 14 has been farcical in the  extreme.

And since I have had issues with the poser legitimisation "server", I have to question whether my investment in it, may one day amount to a loss.  Certainly it casts a question mark over investing in an update with unresolved issues, which I cannot be sure to access or keep.

Same reason I am not getting Poser 14, though the gobo lighting would be awesome. But this release has been so absolutely messed up as to infuriate me.  Instead of a workable cloth simulation solution, what we have is an overcomplicated, messy system that does not work unless you spend HOURS with it, no presets provided, no detailed tutorials except user provided ones, and no new assets in the marketplace that work with it, MONTHS after its release. Take a look at the marketplace. How many assets that are there even mention Poser 14, or are made explicitly for it? I'll wait.

There are presets.

And only the extreme clothing, like full skirts with floppy sleeves, takes hours. Pants, shirts, close fitting dresses set up rather easily.

Forgive me if I am not blown away by 112 items in the Renderosity store with Poser 14 compatibility.

Now for the moment, all is not lost and I have not yet decided that Poser 13 is the last version of Poser I will invest in. I will anticipate what happens in

the future and how respectful (presumably) Bondnware treats long-term users of Poser going forward. I think we can all agree that making new Versions of poser

instead of updating the existing software, is not consumer friendly nor is it respectful to the user base. It would have made sense to update Poser 13 that keeps the Cloth Room in the interim, whilst the company finds a cloth-simulation solution that is better thought through and more intuitive.

The roll of out of Poser 14 was a disaster in almost every way leading to an endless plugging of holes whilst the users are left hanging.

I honestly do not blame people for giving up on Poser once and for all and installing DS,

Note that if you are only looking for a solution to project a pic on a wall or whatever, there is a solution using Poser13.

P14 may have automated gobos, but you could simply use a JPEG (or movie) on a plane before;  this is circa P12:
