Thanks everyone! I've started to work on this little ensemble again, which erstwhile I abandoned in frustration because every little piece of it was giving me grief. It's going better now.

It's the Femmetastic hair that came with the free version of La Femme 2. My favorite Poser hair at the moment.

Here's a pose test with my latest version of the output. Clearly not quite there yet, but also not entirely terrible, I think. Technical note #1: in order to keep her lingerie (that Wikipedia calls a "corset teddy"; let me know if you have a better word for it) from falling off her you-know-what's, I originally put the whole bust and a corresponding strip in the back into the constrained group, but that made it look awfully stiff. So, now it's only the top "hem" that's constrained, with the remaining fabric being free to flow on top of it. I think the general strategy is quite promising: saw a piece underneath the top fabric that's close to the skin and constrained to it, as if one was using actual tape. That will only constrain the top fabric at the respective seams rather than across whole polygons like with my previous method.

I think I'm getting there with the collar and bow tie. The next big challenge will be the tights, specifically having them stay close to the skin in the crotch (which they're already kind of doing here, but certainly not in the pose above) so that the lingerie can go on top of them. Another option would be "built-in" tights, but first I'll try to keep them separate, which makes for a more versatile garment.

Some progress on the tights, using the same technique as for the lingerie: strategically place some strips underneath the top fabric and constrain them to the body. I've also added a new pattern piece for the crotch and put an elastic on the centerline in MD to make into get really close to the body. As you can see, unlike in the sitting image above, there's no fabric spanning between her buttocks anymore.

I think I'm now satisfied with her new miracle tights, and here is where I ended up putting the sticky tape:

E7inX1rhMlZWWr2Q5rxIrcrsW5D0dEtdQHCj4fYQ.jpg

It seems pretty obvious in hindsight, but as usual took me a bit of trial and error to get to. Now the one big item left on the to-do list is resculpting her bunny ears to make them look nicer and more anime-like.

My usual thing happened with her teddy/swimsuit piece where I think I'm basically done with a garment and only need a few final tweaks, but then I end up doing a whole bunch of shaping and rebuilding. I did like it much better when I was done, so I made a little turntable image series in lieu of a video:

Yep, looking like a quickie. I'm pretty happy with it already, just need to play with some material options and decide if I want to lean into that vertical crease in the back with some hemming.

"Special offer! All women's sci-fi overalls are now half off."

I made you a clothing morph, but Poser's fabric-to-fabric collision simulation ate it. 😞

odf ( ) posted Sun, 16 June 2024 at 3:32 AM

Whenever I try to add a morph to an item of dynamic clothing, I find that I get better results if I simply remove some collision objects or add one (possibly animated). In this case, I removed the collisions with the chest and collars - and of course "deactived" the tape that keeps the straps from sliding off her nipples.

Also, observe my attempt at a procedural leather material.

The leather could use a bit more irregularity, I think. Maybe I'll play with it some more.

Here's my favorite procedural denim so far. Altogether, I've now got 10 materials for the overalls, which may be sufficient.

The overalls, a quicky indeed considering my regular turn-around times, are now ready to be packaged up and published, so as is my habit, before I actually go ahead and do that, I'm starting on my next project, a Minoan underdress. At long last, here's a garment where I don't have to worry about keeping the fabric from sliding of the breasts. bljDNfx9Z4coW3SFOWv5NbXihTeh9qBr8Vxd9wWa.jpg

Dang it, I'm afraid my dabbling in Minoan-inspired outfits is a slippery slope that will lead straight to bracelets and head pieces.

So, I think I finally have a concept for a "D" outfit. It will be the .... *drumroll* ... deity outfit, and it will be based on my experiments with Minoan fashion, seeing as one of the well-known figurines from the Minoan culture is commonly known as the snake goddess. Since simulating two long skirts on top of each other is not so useful, I will include the underdress on its own as a garment, plus the version in the picture which is composed of the top part of the underdress combined with a waistband/belt and a long skirt. Then there will be an apron/bodice piece to go on top of that, and possibly some conforming things like the aforementioned head piece and bracelets. If folks ask nicely, I might also give her a shawl so she can cover up her historically accurate bare breasts.

Incidentally, I think I'll need to shorten the sleeves by an inch or two, because at the current length they have a tendency to get caught in the elbow crease.

Not directly related to dynamic clothes, but I decided to finally sit down and work out how to make a procedural star pattern.

I'm back at it with the overalls and decided to try a different nip-slip-prevention method for these. Instead of "gluing" the fabric to specific parts of the skin, I'm adding an invisible strip of fabric between the two straps. The downside is that it's always there and can't be turned on or off, which I think is fine in this case. Another downside is that it's not as foolproof as the "gluing" because the fabric can still slide about relative to the skin, but that also prevents unsightly crumpling.

Just popping my head in to announce that I've return to the bunny costume last night and, thanks to the experience gathered in the meantime, was able to fix most of the nasty simulation issues that had been bugging me. I think I will submit it to FreeStuff pretty much as seen here, without ears and tail, and call it the daring outfit seeing as I'm up to D in my outfit names. That will give me time to sculpt the ears in peace until I'm happy with them. As for the tail, I guess if anyone needs one, they can just use a prop ball with some fuzzy looking material and place it by hand.

Here's a technical question regarding miniskirts, since I don't own or have ever worn any: do I need to make them a bit longer in the back to make up for the bum lifting it up? I goodled for reference images and it seems that the hemline is supposed to be perfectly horizontal in a side view, which is not the case when I make the fabric the same length in the front and back.

(No speculations, please! Look at your actual skirts, or skirt patterns, if you have them.)
