Subject: Import multiple obj at once

Cybertenko ( ) posted Mon, 22 November 2021 at 4:56 AM · edited Wed, 17 April 2024 at 6:00 AM

Hello... is there a way how to import multiple obj into poser at once so it will stay as separate props there? this might help me a lot. Thank you.

I'm probably going to regret saying this, or anything at all, but no method I've ever come across. Closest thing is separate groups all within one obj. There perhaps may be a python plug in, or different import format other than obj, that does this...

Other than those observations, you CAN drag and drop obj into a scene file by grabbing the obj file and hovering it over the pose room workspace preview window, your cursor will turn into a little plus sign icon and upon releasing the left mouse button you'll be presented with a standard obj import pop up. You can rapidly drag and drop multiple obj into scene and the import dialogue pop ups will stack. As you probably know leaving all options unchecked will maintain relative scale and position.

The drag and drop option would be my recommendation also as there is no other feature that can import multiple .obj files.

thank you... i ll try that to see if it helps a bit.

You can select multiple objs and drag them following primorge's instructions. You'll get the import popup window for each. This works in poser 11 and 12. I didn't check older versions.

Richard Mandel's epic RE scene re-make freebies, now pulled from SCG, had a modular OBJ format. Each part was self-contained thanks to 'local' vertex etc numbering. So, parts could be copy/pasted from eg Wordpad, would 'stand alone' using the set's big MTL. Which, of course, could be edited down to suit in eg Notepad.

I'm sorry, I do not know what software was used, the nuances of configuring export for 'aggregated' mega-OBJ, or if all done by hand. But, it can be done in plain-text.

eg RE2 Room207-West Staircase, again note f-sequence is local, starts over for each part...

mtllib D:\XNALara XPS\data\2017 Multi-Model Packs\RE2 Source Demo Separated Rooms Pack\ROOM207 - West Staircase\rpd_1f-to-2f_west_staircase.mtl

vt -12.1563 6.375
v 3.99202 7.72247 2.12886
vn 0 0 1
... etc unto ~1.5 MB

... rather than a monolithic model's format of eg...
f 895365/895365 896343/896343 895974/895974
f 896270/896270 895638/895638 895639/895639
f 895906/895906 896270/896270 895639/895639

Above a certain poly-count, also shrinks OBJ file-size to have multiple low-ish f-sequences than many 6 or 7 digit calls...

Does this help ??

Also, I'm reminded that a PP2 may 'call' multiple external OBJs...

PhilC's OBJ Import Plus script is what you want, I think:

As mentioned above, PhilC's OBJ Import Plus is the thing.  Works perfectly.  I use it a lot of the time when rigging.

PhilC's OBJ Import Plus works  great! I'm not sure how I had not heard of it before. Nevertheless, I downloaded it today and it is compatible with  Poser 11.3,  Mac OS 10.14.

Thank you for the recommendation.

Be aware, it no longer works in P12 because of the update to Python 3.  So, if you intend to upgrade to the latest version of Poser, keep your old P11 installed.
