should i be avoiding certain types of shaders?
i have a few animations ruined by pixels going crazy
what can i do to avoid this?
thanks.
tried again
i rendered uncompressed, so i could rule out poor compression.

The cryopods look clean, but the nature scenes have a lot more going on. The flickering happens where you have high per-pixel complexity - plants sticking out of water on the rock. Yes, calculating shadows for hundreds of lights will be more complex than shadows for one light. Have you tried your nature scenes with different object accuracy settings? Did that help?
