Subject: Looking for Poserfusion plugin for Lightwave

MrBickel ( ) posted Mon, 08 February 2021 at 6:41 AM ยท edited Wed, 11 September 2024 at 1:53 PM

Greetings, I am in search of the Poserfusion Poser Pro 11.2 plugin (with a serial number) for Lightwave . I will gladly buy the plugin or if need be, re-buy 11.2 IF the plugin comes with it. Please get back if you can help.

Thank You

I don't know about Lightwave, but I have used PoserFusion for 3DSMAX, and at least in my experience, it is not worth the effort. Let me explain why. Poser doesn't support unimesh internally, meaning all rigged figure geometries will be split into separate split meshes, so you will NOT have the same geometry in anything exported from Poser. This applies to both geometries and UV mappings. If we weld the meshes back into 1 piece, that will produce an even more different vertex winding order, meaning we cannot use it for creating or exchanging morphs back to Poser, or any other software. The moment we export rigged figures from Poser, we will never get the original geometry back from it.

In addition, Poser shader nodes cannot be exported this way, or any other way. This is because Poser native shader nodes are incompatible with all other software. Unfortunately, most 3D applications are like that. DAZ Studio 3DL shader bricks are equally incompatible with Poser, and everything else. This means your exported scene from Poser not only will end up with broken geometry (Fusion plugins are no exception), but also most materials will be lost in the process.

Therefore Poser Fusion plugins are not worth the effort. My workaround is to simply export the scene as either FBX (may have compatibility issues) or plain OBJ, which is guaranteed to load anywhere. Poser native materials based on shader nodes will be lost anyway, so not much we could do about it, with or without Poser Fusion.

"most materials will be lost in the process"

Vue is the clear exception here. Smith Micro and E-on spent years and years and a great deal of developer effort aligning the two softwares, and Poser scene and figure import continues under Vue's Bentley ownership and the subscription Vue.

The latest Vue 2021 R6 imports Poser scenes, exports to C4D, 3DS Max, Maya, LightWave, Pixar and Nvidia Omniverse.

Thanks for the heads up, HartyBart! Makes me wonder why didn't Poser do the same on its own Fusion plugins to make them worth using. But even if the materials weren't mostly lost on exports, the geometry was still split and broken, as well as the UVs. If we sculpt over split geometry, it opens gaps in the mesh, and even if we don't sculpt, the seams still show in renders. We cannot subdivide split geometry, which is yet another bummer. If we wanted to retouch the UV mapping, the shells are all split and useless.

I can't wait for the new unimesh Poser 12 version. It's in the works with Rendo.

As I recall E-on bought Poser before Smith Micro. So since E-on owns Vue and they owned Poser for a release it makes sense they wanted Poser so they could get figures into Vue. So since they had the code it was probably easy to put a module into Vue for the Poser figures. Since we all know that the basis's of Poser haven't changed that would explain why Vue still works with current versions of Poser.

Just to be clear Vue only needs to import a CR2 file and like Poser anything it does not understand just ignore it.

The rest of the Fusion plugin's belong to programs that have never been owned by the Poser owners, so don't get the in depth treatment as having the source code provides.

As far as I remember, eFrontier from Tokyo owned Poser before Smith Micro. Before them it was Curious Labs, MetaCreations, and Fractal Designs. I have never heard of E-on owning Poser. When did that happen?

you are right I had the wrong company. I just remember when I got the program from EFrontier there was an option to get Vue I believe or ( cut down version) they also provided a modeling program.

There are, indeed, cut down versions of Vue. I guess it got so darn expensive that people started giving up on it, so they started catering for the rest of us with cut down versions.
