I've been reading threads about tattoos and I was wondering if there's an easy way to apply a tattoo in any texture.
Right now I'm using this configuration

But I feel like I'm making life difficult for myself. There must be an easier way to do it. Perhaps a way to make a mask without making two different texture maps? I've tried using only a color_math but the skin of the area comes out darker or lighter according to the tattoo.
When I use ezmat the tattoo dissappears completely. I was hoping I could use VSS but it doesn't work for some reason and I like ezmat's skin output better anyway.
I made a partial MATpose and added only the tattoo nodes but the rest of the map was gone. I then thought to use easyskin Effects but I was lost when I looked at the coding.
I hope there's an easier way to do this. I just want to add the nodes without any specific texture and keep the rest intact. Any advice?

Have you tried 'Advanced Shaders' by Semidieu? Free at RDNA: http://www.runtimedna.com/Advanced-Shaders.html
Use whatever skin you want, then use Advanced shaders to add the tattoo in layers. Use as many or few layers as you want, if you don't like the result, reload the original skin and start over.

Seconded!

This was the first thing I tried and failed miserably. I read it in another post that it can help but I can't figure it out.
In the setup I'm using I first applied EZmat skin and then I unhooked the texture map from the scatter and added the blender in its place. I basically just want to add nodes to a figure that are not connected to anything so I can replace the connection later wherever I want to. It doesn't seem like I can do that with Advanced Shaders.

I know right?!!! The new material room is actually what tipped the scale to buy the new Poser. I was so jealous of the DS IRAY materials but now we'll have some real power in there! Can't wait for BB to do his magic!
Anyway, I finally decided to add the tattoo nodes to the custom_output and Advanced Shaders did the job. It's really powerful isn't it? And to think I never used it before.

Check out "Poser 11 Sneak Peek" BB has some test renders there. It's early on, but gives some ideas.

I know, I've been following every poser 11 thread I can get my hands on. Some really great stuff happening, even Pauline has great potential!

That's what I thought. Although her face isn't "perfect" anatomically speaking out of the box, it has more morph potential than some of her predecessors. And I've seen some amazing results from many of them as well.

From the things I read I think Pauline will be a very easy model to make pretty. I can't wait for a look at Paul. I just hope there's a way to use V4 textures on her.
