Hope this helps but when I installed Carrara 8.5 had to do two things to make sure all the files from Daz studio were found correctly one was make sure if you are on a Windows machine make sure the DAZ Content Management Service was running then go into Daz Studio and do a Content DataBase maintinance see screen shot for which boxes should be checked and then reopen carrara and did an auto detect runtime and all files were found and load. I loaded V5 which was also a dsf and it loaded up like it should. Hope this helps some.

Don't get me started on DAZ's DR...CMS. You don't need it.

I've been runing Carrara since 5, using Poser runtimes. Carrara using Studio files is new to C8.5; more or less. You should simply be able to add the studio "my library" folder to carrara's content menu and have it work fine. Should being the key word.

Wish I could help you with the undocking of menus but not having multiple moniters means I've never had the need to figure that one out.

Seems this was discussed in another forum post or at least mentioned about the use of CMS with Carrara and from the tone of the other post http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2878635 some are not to happy with it and looking at he present documentation from Daz about Carrara 8.5 to be able to use some of the content it has to be used. But just sharing information that I have found to useful at the moment.

Yes and you can't gripe about it on the forum where it might do some good

I only upgrade because of the price and really wanted to learn Carrara for the possiblity of taking advantage of its advance shading and more.

seems RESOLVED.  😄

Thanks everybody.

not sure exactly what the problem was, something between cms and carrara.

Reinstalling DS4.62.118 and CMS via the ‘installer’ was giving me error messages. like scripts, utilities, ignore/retry.
so i uninstalled DS and CMS with the ‘uninstaller’ (separate uninstallers, yet one installer).
rebooted.
manually deleted the cms and daz executables folders.
Installed to custom destination path, E:DS  for the cms E:QS

oddly enough, didn’t touch the carrara install at all.
oddly enough, didn’t have to touch ‘MyLibrary’ folder of content,
but, Aiko 5 loads up now.

had to reinstall the couple of ds plug-ins.  but anything for my dear sweet Aiko 5

rubs hands together like macbeth

next, to learn how to undock the content browse tab to left monitor and close up the sequencer out of the way.

I love playing with this stuff, I mean I am more in to staging then rendering. So if you have any questions/issues let me know. If I don't know what to do I will figure it out ;)

Once you get that done you can disable CMS till you need it again. I've expressed my opinion of what I think of it; aside from autofit not working in the C8.5 release, and issues with Studio/carrara often losing track of textures, I don't miss it ;)

I mean I have found if I do a bunch of content installs to Studio things work much better after a "run once" of CMS. I really need to reinstall it then disable it and see if autofit works in carrara.... hmmmm time to play lol

3 at the top of my list to conquer in ca

use it to create morphs for gn and g2m, for my manbabe pinup renders, 😄
and modeling inch thick slabs.

how to get dynamic hair to work, eventually want to animate in it.  i did it once in C6 for the mil dragon, but don't remember.

body painting an exporting it as a texture map.

3+  watery caustics. gorgeous archvis

Pay $20 for Hexagon and use the Studio-Hex bridge. I haven't done it with genesis; I'll give it a run through in a few, but if DAZ hasn't borked it, that is the way to do body/head morphs. I did a lot with the mil2/3/4 figures.

Dynamic hair used to work quite well, but DAZ has slapped it a few times. I'll do run with it too; I had intended to for an M4 optitex dyamic render {dynamic loin cloth and stiff hair/beard? Not going to work }

Body painting, I have bad news. Does not work well with multiple shader domain objects, sorry. It has it's uses; 3D paint, but texture painting on figures isn't one of them.

And I have always had to fake caustics for water   I can make a water caustics texture with Genetica then use it as a gel in a light and bump map on the water surface. Yes it takes some doing to get it right, and yes barn doors on the spot light helped.

I'm sure it can be done in carrara, how is the question.
