I'm trying to do a cityscape, I had a website with a tutorial for using Illustrator and exporting it to Carrara or Hexagon to generate geometry. However I can't find the website, I did a tutorial search here and came up empty. I know it was an effects company, I thought it was geeks at play, but I was wrong.

Anyone know where this tutorial is lurking on the web?

Thanks,

Joe

What version of Carrara are you using? This is very easy to do with the replicator - no illustrator required.

Thanks Mark, knew  forgot something.

Carrara 8 pro, but I was looking for the site because it had tons of tutorials on Hexagon and Carrara and some of the quirks for both. I remember that one distinctly. Hoping someone knew it, bunch of vid tutorials for several programs.

I know who you are talking about regarding the tutorials. Their name escapes me but I know that group is no longer in business; they had actually referred some business to me a couple of years ago as they were winding things up.

The .ai city tutorial you are thinking of (at least the one I'm thinking of) was done just before the replicator was integrated with Carrara. While it's anothor way to do things, the replicator is is the fastest. Is that something that you want to figure out or would you like me to show a method?

Figures..

Show me to the tutorial. I'm sort of doing Sprawling city. Since that site is gone, you wouldn't happen to know tutorials for the Z-Depth rendering in Carrara Pro?

Thanks again.

Mark,

I think it would be a reasonable idea to show us your method.  It's sort of a weird nut to crack and get to look good.

Wow Mark, I got a mention. Thanks for the tutorial.

Thanks Mark, what are the differences when you want to set up for a close up or when you have a specific sprawl or pattern in mind?

Thanks,

Joe

For a pattern or a bona fide block grid, you need to create a black and white texture map to control distribution. This can be done with any paint program.

The replicator is one of the neatest tools that we've gotten in C in the last few years.  There are a few more tweaks I wish it had but beggars can't be choosers.

Thanks for the tutorial!
