Just purchased C8pro, bringing in my files from C5

I have a staircase Ive been building most of the components map just fine, however the railing maps just fine ( I check it with a checker pattern) until C8 is saved then reopened. Its as if C8 is remapping the obj all by itself and infact thats exactly whats happening. If I export the railing back out as a obj and check it with my uv software it has indeen been changed. I bring the railing into ZBrush and its just fine. Im a fairly experienced mapper, but this has me stumpped.

Why would C8 alter the mapping of an item when saved and reopened. I work with ZB, Poser and C5 for years, Ive never seen this before.

Any Ideas?

I think I fixed it. There was a stray polygon that didnt seem to bother C5 or ZB,

but C8 didnt like it. I Triangulated N-gons and tesselated once, that seemed to fix the problem.

Funny thing; I model a lot in Wings and I've often UV mapped in Wings itself or UVMapper classic. I've imported a lot of my mapped models into C5 up through C8Pro and never had a prob. I've been guilty of an Ngon here and there(fairly large building and structure models) but Carrara usually handles and renders those just fine.

I haven't encountered a software that has "perfect" results when importing other formats. They all seem to have little "gotcha's" that users can work around, but only if you know to look for them.

In fact, one of my clients software can't even re-import successfully CG models that it exports into another format itself. Silly, but true.

I agree, I occasionaly come across glicthes that seem to defy explanation.

Sometimes you can perform the same sequence or method of construction 100 times and then all of a sudden it doesnt work. I also realize that Im 57 and sometimes make stupid mistakes I probably wouldnt have 20 years ago
