Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2026 Feb 07 11:54 am)
I can't reproduce this, even fiddling with a variety of settings (inches, feet as measurement units, raytracing on/off etc). Contact SM support, I think you've probably found a bug.
Quote - Problem is... it never seems to change. I start with a completely new scene, create a single spotlight... go to the Attenuation option and select either Inverse Linear or Inverse Square and the display never changes from Constant.
What do you mean by "the display".
Do you mean the value displayed/shown in the attenuation control GUi element doesn't change? (It should)
Do you mean the preview of your scene looks the same? (It will - no change - preview doesn't do falloff)
Do you mean there is no change in the render? (It should)
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
I got the impression he meant the setting on the control in the Parameter Dials window but those are good questions to ask.

I have noticed that preview display does change to certain degree if spotlight is farther away. It appears not to change if light is close to an object in question.
One thing I do notice is that when change the spotlight to say, inverse linear, all the infinite lights will then say that also. There is no effect on them (because no degree of infinite, I suppose) except the label.

I believe that the light does respond... purely based on how SemiDieu's light guide functions. I have not tested enough to see if that light is actually changing.
It threw me when the GUI element remained "Constant", no matter what I did.

That's a bug for sure then.

Forgive me if this has been covered, but my search fu is exceedingly weak.
I've owned P8 since launch, but don't use it much (I prefer Studio), but I am trying to play with it and learn its new features, etc.
Today I learned about the new light attenuation controls for spotlights and pointlights.
Problem is... it never seems to change. I start with a completely new scene, create a single spotlight... go to the Attenuation option and select either Inverse Linear or Inverse Square and the display never changes from Constant.
What the hell am I missing? Shouldn't this be as simple as point and click?
Even went so far to change my units to PNU, thinking that I might NEED to since the lights work with PNU. No joy.
Manual is no help.
