Can a Carrara 3d scene with shaders be converted successfully into a Poser .pz3.
Something like Howie Farke's awesome scenes?

No way... you can only export as OBJ or other file format.. all texture will be converted to BUT HF use some features like "instances" in Carrara that need to be converted to real objects before export... so you will end with a very very high density mesh.
By the way, you cna open Poser stuff in Carrara, and it is more faster to render them Poser... so its more easy to port your PZ3 or CR2 files to Carrara them the reverse.

Thx ,
Looks like we will have to stick to rendering in Carrara then!

Think of Poser as a Plug-in to Carrara.
(Most other comprehensive 3d apps do also)

poser (8, pro) renderer is now alot faster than in old days.  FFRender doesn't officially do indirect specular yet, but when does anybody use that in carrara?  it's very cpu-intensive.  the poser renderer doesn't get much good publicity yet, as most users don't understand shadows nor GI, and they say that poser manual doesn't have enough detail on GI.  but try transparency-mapped poser hair (feature dating back to poser 4, 1999) in either poser or carrara - it will render extremely slowly in either app.

Miss Nancy, that's the frustrating thing about Poser users and even some Carrara users. Not enough true experts!

I've been going back and forth between forums to try and decide which path to continue down. The new Poser improvements are great, but the ones coming for Carrara are great, too! Wish I had a money tree! ;)

Carrara is a Comprehensive, all round 3D app.
Poser is not.
Carrara can import and work with most Poser files.

I know that already, Brian  :) ,  I'm just disappointed how some things look in C except for Howie's scenes.  With the improvements to Poser's renderer, lights and BB's VSS, characters look much better in Poser renders (if done right) than they do in C renders. I just think it hasn't been figured out how to do it well in C yet. I know all the other benefits already. I'm just tired of searching for answers and waiting. I wish I had more free time and knowledge to try and figure out how to do something similar to VSS in C myself. I now really think I'm going the compositing route to get the best of both programs in a shorter time span.
